I have the exact same speaker with the exact same problem, watched this video, ordered a replacement diode (plus a few extras), then fixed my speaker in 15 minutes. I stored the extra diodes in an antistatic bag inside the speaker housing, in case it blows again. thank you so much, sorin!!

Your techniques are so much like mine Sorin. I have tried several Shottky diodes until I got power supply working and repaired flexi cables in the same way too. The people hating the videos don't understand that we have time and money constraints these days. You used to be able to order the correct part and wait for it to arrive ex Japan/ Europe at a high price, and the customer would accept that most of the time because the equipment was expensive and desirable. Now they will pay you nothing, want it fixed quickly and are happy to put it in the bin if you can't do that.

Thanks so much for such an informative video! This must be a common issue as the same diode D1 was also shorted on my speaker. A quick trip to my local electronics shop for a new schottky and a bit of soldering and voila! the speaker is alive again! Saved me hours and hours of scratching my head.

Great video so history I started working on computers in 1990. Ended up switching to a electrical field. They I delt with only automotive computers and moudules. Due to heath issues I'm getting back into board repair services again. It all goes hand in hand. Electrical is electrical voltages range and design changes. I enjoy stuff like this but we are in a throw away generation and it makes it hard. On a good note people will give you stuff that don't work. Enjoy everyone and if you mess up just learn and go on. If your just starting work on your stuff so if you burn it up it's not as bad.

I would also suggest a Dremel with a sanding or polishing attachment to clean the plastic on the ribbon cable is a lot safer on the fingers and easier on the ribbon. Really a Dremel is an indispensable tool, like hot snot glue, every bench should have one..

To work correctly in a switching circuit, the diode's recovery time is very important. Compare this in the datasheets, it should be as low or lower than the one you are replacing
@NeuronalAxon5 жыл бұрын
Do the common ones have a large range of timings?
@msubtech844 жыл бұрын
@@NeuronalAxon If I remember the voltage ratings on the Skotchey diode affects it's switching rate....maybe I need to look that up again I am just stabbing in the dark.
@maryjaneevadiamond63592 жыл бұрын
Just remember that shotky is fast. Switching power supplies can work on different frequencies. When you imagine a DC to DC converter, technically it's a DC to AC to DC converter and if the frequency used in that switching circuit cant be completely rectified by diode or bridge rectifier then the voltage will be LOWER because its going to miss some of the cycles. Hey, next time you put in parts from donor boards you CHECK parts first ok. 🙏 And good job by the way. Flat cable fix was amazing.

You can measure the schottsky diode with your diodetest. It opens at about 0,2 volts. A Normal diode at 0,5. It is not good at high voltages and it have a bigger leak in reverse direcsion. You find them in the secondary on the swiching powersuply. They are as here very fast. Thank yo for a nice video.

Sorin, excellent video as usual. I know you´re a busy man, but I´d like to ask for help. I have here a Samsung NP550P5C laptop motherboard, but it doesn´t power on (it´s dead). I have 19V power rail all over the board, but doesn´t turn on. The only way to turn it on is when I inject 3V on TPS51125 (pin 13) EN0. When I do that, TPS51125 gets VREF, VREG5, VREG3 which generate VCC for EC. The power LED light up, I get 3V on the power button, and when I press power switch the board turns on. The board works perfectly for one or two days, but after that it´s dead again; no LED at all. So I have to disassemble the laptop and inject 3V on TPS51125 (pin 13) EN0, and the board reborn again. I don´t know what to do. It´s beyond my skills, so I count on your expertise. Thanks a lot Sorin .
