Nice video. By the way, the new dual mosfet position can be easily found by the white spot next to the pin on the mb and the hole in the corner of the mosfet. You don`t have to check continuity on the mosfet pins.

Just got the same with Intel N2840 without a fan (as it is a small underpowered procesor) but as soon as it gets into Windows it will shut down completely. Sometimes keyboard is not working and blinking caps lock. Tried updating BIOS and replacing RAM and CMOS but seems to be the power supply of the processor or the CPU itself. How to diagnose that since it starts up normally! Thank you Mr Sorin for your videos!

Can somebody explain to me how these MOSFET power supply work exactly? What does the coil/inductor do? Does the driver to PWM to regulate the output voltage of the MOSFET? Why we need a second MOSFET? I tried to find out myself but all examples I could are much more complex.

Last night I had a Lenovo B50-70. It powered up and shut down for few seconds. Thanks for your diagnostic method I can check the key things! The 19V power rail was ok. On the memory power supply I measured 1,38V. After a few power up the memory got warm. The sticker on the memory module is burned a bit. I replaced the memory module to an other one and the laptop works fine. Weird Can the memory module go to short?

Good Video. so if current sense loop tells the power control chip there is too much current it would cut the 1.5v reference voltage to the gate. and then retry. the 3 volts comes from the cap and the coil being charged and cut. similar to a voltage doubler circuit. even with the short the power control chip avoids damaging other components.
@electronicsrepairschool
@electronicsrepairschool 7 жыл бұрын
everything its cuted down already there by the second mosfet based on the current sensor which is next to the second mosfet. 1.5v power rail is joined/shorted with 19v power rail. We have 3v on the memory because i limited the current from my lab power supply

I think I started watching your videos on November 2020 and now i already fixed 5 laptops, i also encountered dual Mosfet of HP laptop unfortunately i don't have that dual Mosfet. I almost do the modified but I'm a bit scared as of now and the laptop is expensive i don't want to make mistakes and damage more components. By the way on hp laptop the dual Mosfet dead is the 3.3v

most people who study electronics dont really know much...its this hands on experience that really pulls it all together..not oscilloscopes and theory. and calculations.(maybe for circuit designer)
@TrinitronX
@TrinitronX 3 жыл бұрын
I had the same experience. Finished my 4 year degree in EE, but came away with nothing practical... just lots of math and theory, no way to put it into practice! Sure, we built some LED arrays, did some LabView data acquisition projects, and got to play with lego mindstorms robots. Yet, I have no idea how to design a circuit or product from the ground up, much less diagnose or repair anything complicated. The closed-source IP & proprietary nature of these things is causing so many problems. Students come out with a university degree but no hope in paying off student debt unless they get lucky and find a job where senior level designers will act as mentor. Too much barrier to entry, and generational inequality on top of that! Not to mention the whole planned obsolescence & secretive IP model is also creating massive e-waste problems. Let's hope the right to repair movement is successful! Most of the electronics field is still way behind when it comes to Open Source & DIY learning resources.

When you forgot the orientation. So did I when i was sitting watching and learning how to troubleshoot. But then I noticed on the motherboard it had a dot to show the orientation of the duel mosfet. Or atleast thats what I think it meant. Some have arrow showing orientation. But I dont know if all boards mark like this. So good Idea to know without counting on a mark.

Sir I love and learn a lot of things from your video but I have a little to add to where u had difficulties in determining the type of mosfet. You can easily type the marking code on the Internet and know its value and functions and while replacing, you can do the same thing for the outstanding one you have @ your disposal to be on a safer side.

Sorry to ask a stupid question. On your drawing, the +13V at the top looks like that is what comes from the charger/battery. So where is the output to the rest of the circuitry? Or if the +13A at the top is the output then where is the rail from the charger/battery?

Recently I changed the motherboard (15CBHPGT) of my old laptop (HP envy 15t Q300) after HP service confirmed the board was damaged. Now after changing the board and connecting only the power cord without the battery, the power LED is turning on but the pressing the power button is not turning it on. No power to fan or HDD. I checked by disconnecting each connection, Ram, HDD, display but nothing solved the issue. I have checked the 19.5V to the board and the 3V to the power button. This is happening with the new mother board. Can you suggest what I can check now.
