I had/have a black friend who went to middle and high school with me and I have 3 sisters. Saying that a woman should smile more is a way of dehumanizing her. No longer is she a full human being with emotions and intellect . The fact that they are women means they should just smile and try to look good for men. If you walk through the streets of New York or passed a construction site, the men will cat call you and this is one of the things they will yell out. I know this might seem a lot to digest if you have never thought of it that way before. But just think, would you yell out at a man walking down the street that he should smile? Or even just passing by a man, no one would tell him to smile because we don’t think that he is under any obligation to make others around him happy and swallow his own emotions.
