Omni Man is thousands of years old, has conquered and single handedly wiped out entire planets, and is said to be one of the greatest Viltrumite warriors. Homelander struggled against Queen Maeve and Butcher, while Omni Man killed all the guardians on his own. The Guardians Omni Man killed included a Queen Maeve equivalent, and another hero with Superman like powers albeit weaker. While Homelander is rarely ever tested by anyone nearly as strong as him The Boys universe, Omni Man comes from a civilisation where weakness is punishable by death. He’s also fought and killed other Viltrumites that possess Superman like abilities, all of which are stronger than Homelander. To sum it up, Viltrumites are way too blood thirsty, combat trained, physically strong, durable and battle tested for Homelander to survive an encounter with even their female warriors.

I think what encapsulated this dynamic very well was the beginning: Homelander just ran his mouth blustering to try and intimidate Omni Man.
