I've always thought that Torchwood isn't Doctor Who for adults, it's Sarah Jane Adventures for adults, this episode really shows that I think it was so campy. But maybe all us grownups need a bit of that

I think that campiness was inherit to the era of the show. The parent show was like this too.

I think having serious episodes is good but once in a while you just want to have a little fun with a show. Like this episode is a little fun while also being scary and having high stakes too. It shows a balance can be made but hard to maintain
@commissarcry643 жыл бұрын
@@Venemofthe888 I totally agree, serious episodes (like literally all of children of earth) can be incredible. It's good to space them out with breather episodes to show the team being friends, it makes the inevitable sadness when someone is killed off (OWEN WHY) more impactful

Honestly you say the cast was misused in this episode but I enjoyed Ianto's bigger part in this one. Part of his character, which we learn in CoE, is that he actually lied and kept his private life in secret. But it felt like From Out of the Rain gave us insight into a part of him that wasn't a lie or a farce to stop people asking him questions in the form of his excitement at the Electro. How the Ringmaster just appears out of nowhere and vulcan death grips him to let go of the flask is frustrating though but then there was a lot that could have been done better here. For all its flaws, I appreciate the character work on Ianto here.

I feel like Hammond's style of dark twisted fairytale type stories probably work better elsewhere (i.e. his own show Sapphire and Steel) than they do in Torchwood. Given that this show is a more grounded show with easily conceivable sci-fi concepts, doing a story with bizarre unexplained supernatural elements feels like a poor fit for the general tone, which I think is why I didn't much care for either this episode or "Small Worlds"

My most disliked episode of Torchwood. You saying photos of normal people hardly existed before the 1980’s is wrong. My great grandma has an 80 page album showing photos of herself as a child and even photos of her great grandmother in the early 20th century. Not upper or middle classes who often could afford such things but working class families and urchins playing. Some of the photos are in sepia. The album is a history of normal people throughout the 20th century. The photos (some of them were taken on something called a box brownie) so check your facts,please!!!

Julian Bleach is one of few actors to be in all three of the major Doctor Who properties. He is famously Davros in Nu Who, he played The Nightmare Man in The Sarah Jane Adventures and then he is in this episode as The Ghostmaker. I will say the two parter The Nightmare Man in The Sarah Jane Adventures is way better than this and is legit one of my fave two part stories from that show. From Out Of The Rain is very weak. It is very disjointed and kind of boring.
