if you go back to 1953 bennet is the worst nba first pick..he somehow even makes larue martin look good...and honestly they are the 2 worst first picks and bennet played less games than him so...but to be fair to bennet 2 first picks never played a game in the league and 2 others pre 1953 were trash as well and gone very fast...but that was a different era obviously

Something we must remember about it, is that he was a mid-late lottery pick, that the cavs picked out of nowhere. With all that unnecessary hype, he was doomed to fail. And this is why I don’t consider him the biggest bust of all time. There was absolutely no reason for him to go first, it’s not his fault at all. If he went to an average team at like 11, he could’ve been a decent player imo.

Anthony Bennett should have been a mid-late lottery pick. He stunk only because he got the pressure of being the 1st pick. He scored 16 points in the preseason 2013, he had 19 points towards the end of the season, and had 20 points the next season when he played for the Timberwolves. The teams should have given him a PROPER chance. He had 16 points per 36 minutes when he was on the Nets for the 2016-17 season. He was ONLY 22! Current 27 year old Anthony Bennett should be back in the NBA and he would probably average 20 points per 36 minutes and he could be a solid 6th man of the year candidate at the very least. He played 13 minutes per game his 1st season and didn't get the ball very much. Yes he did not want to overcome adversity and I do admit that is a flaw of the game. That caused him to back away from the ball. Also his effeciency that disappeared when he went from college to the NBA. This is only because he was the 1st pick of his draft and had to carry the pressure of being that 1st pick. If he went 4th or 5th, he would have averaged probably 8-10 points as a rookie. Late lottery, 10 maybe 15 points. Remember, Bennett in college averaged 16 points on 53% shooting which is great in college. He also went 38% from 3 which it is the college 3 point line but that still is amazing. This was because he DID have the proper chance to play and he didn't have so much pressure on him to perform well. In the NBA, he did shoot 67% from the freethrow line and that actually is really good for a Power Forward in the NBA especially at the time. No teams are giving Bennett the chance. I hate to say it but Bennett is actually better than alot of the guys currently on a team and in the rotation. Tacko Fall is really popular but Bennett has better stats. For crying out loud, Brian Scalabrine had worse numbers than Bennett. Scal was in the NBA for 11 years. Joel Anthony was in the league for 10 years and had a career average of 2.2 points ages 22-32, Bennett ages 19-23 averaged 4.4 points. And Bennett has not played since he was 23. He once put up 36 points in a G-League game. Thats impressive. Someone just give Anthony Bennett a chance. PLEASE!
@OllieBlazin4 жыл бұрын
I just remember being hyped about 2013 because the Cavs got in 2011 alone, Kyrie and Tristan Thomson, and in 2012 they got Dion Waiters. Just off the draft they looked like they can recoup after Lebron left. And I firmly believe if they had drafted Otto Porter they could have a very exciting upcoming team. They even got the 2014 first pick! The top draft picks were people like Nerlens, Oladipo, and so on. Then out of no where they said Anthony Bennett. There’s a reason why Bill Simmons said Woah! when he was drafted. Nobody even expected him in the top 20. This was just the weirdest pick. Almost immediately after the Cavs picked him, the draft analysts were awkwardly coming up with reasons they got a good pick.

My thing with Anthony Bennett is that he was never supposed to be picked number one overall. If I recall, Noel was thought to go at one, and everyone, including Bennett himself, was very surprised when his name was called instead. If he was picked at like 10, he wouldn’t have faced so much pressure and he could’ve been a project that had time to develop, but being the top pick means all eyes were on him at all times when it was clear he wasn’t NBA ready.
