Remembering Art Laboe | KCET

Radio legend Art Laboe is credited with pioneering industry standards such as audience requests and song dedications, and he is believed to be the first DJ to play rock 'n roll tunes on Los Angeles radio. He was also among the first DJs to play music by both Black and white artists, and he built a major following among Latino communities across the region. Laboe was also known for his live concerts that attracted top acts, but were beloved by audiences simply for seeing the famed DJ in person.

Ahh...Art I remember being a teen, listening to your nightly show in the 1980s and calling in to request a song...you always played it before I had to turn off the radio and go to bed. Thanks for always being there and answering that phone for us in the middle of the night.💔 We'll see you later Art, you'll always be synonymous with "oldies but goodies". ❤️🇺🇸

I remember when I was younger and dedicated a song 🎵 to mother 👩 👩‍🍼 if this world 🌎 was mine my mom was going throw cancer and her she is 25 years later still alive and ok this song 🎵 I feel like it healed my mommy 👩🎉❤❤
