Nostalgic Mid-Fifties slices of life and landscape in Philadelphia and its surrounding towns.
Features excellent color footage of Center City scenes, Philly neighborhoods, Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, the Mummers Parade, Levittown, port docks, factories in Camden, New Jersey, and many other subjects that can no longer be seen like Shibe Park, also known as Connie Mack Stadium (razed in 1976). Interesting note, the final game at Connie Mack Stadium was played on October 1, 1970, with the Phillies defeating the Montreal Expos 2-1 in 10 innings. The occasion was marred by souvenir hunters literally dismantling the stadium, even while the game was still in progress -- only in Philly !
Philadelphia in the 1950s was a bustling city with a thriving economy, a growing population, and a vibrant cultural scene. The city was home to a large number of businesses and factories, providing jobs for many residents. The population was also growing, as people moved to the city for work and to escape the rural areas. The cultural scene was lively, with a thriving music and arts scene. Philadelphia was known for its jazz clubs, theaters, and museums, and was a major hub for the arts in the 1950s. The City of Brotherly Love in the 1950s was a vibrant thriving city with a dynamic and exciting atmosphere.
Producer and Director: Cal Jones. Cinematographer: Ralph Lopatin. Writer and Narrator: Dick McCutchen.

Born in the late 80's and growing up into an adult in the 2000's I can't help but to always think of these times here in this video as a great period of time that I missed. My soul longs for this forgotten time. Today stinks! It's terrible. People are selfish, times are hard. Property is expensive, the food is toxic, the medicine makes you sick, the banks are crooked, and the people are selfish. Why!? We let God slip from out grasps. The people then were so real and never bothered to tell you how it was. Being aware of what this generation has missed is a great struggle in my lifetime that saddens me.

I recognize most of these places. I was born in 2002, so I wasn’t around to see the city in it’s heyday. This was the time when my grandparents were kids and my great grandparents were young adults. I really with I could just get inside the video and stay there forever. It was such a beautiful era.

You spelled "DIEversity" incorrectly, you spelled the word in the old form. Sorry but the original spelling has been changed as of late to reflect the true implications of the effects of the word on society.

Before the Tribe destroyed Philadelphia and driven out most of its former White inhabitants. They terrorized the Whites with the blacks using forced integration “diversity” to flood and destroy White communities as soon as they moved in and began attacking our people and tearing up the neighborhood the Whites begin to flee and move to a more Whiter area. That’s what they did to Philadelphia and it’s White people terrorizing them into fleeing the city and transformed into it a Black Concrete Jungle!
