I will always remember the day that Dave Mirra showed up at the local skate park in Switzerland me and my friend frequently visited as teens back in the days. My friend and I were lucky enough to be there and what started as a disappointing day because some skateboarders stole my friends cap out of spite because we were inline skating "in their park" turned out to be a fantastic session we had with Dave and memories I will cherish for the entirety of my life. Out of nowhere came Dave and asked my friend why he's so bummed. He told Dave what happened and without any hesitation he gave away his cap as a gift. We had the pleasure to talk to him for some time while most of the skateboarders didn't even recognize him. We were super exited when he told us that he would love to ride with us in that massive wooden bowl that's in that park. I will never forget the moment I did a Royale Grind and Dave jumped over me doing a Tuck No Hander. We watched him riding that bowl in awe until he left the place. Even though we did a different sport Dave was always a huge inspiration for me. He showed the world that there are other actions sports out there than skateboarding and exceptional athletes can be found in every sport. For me he first and foremost was an ambassador of having fun while doing a sport that you love. Thank you Dave for those memories and for beeing such a great person, you will always be remembered by kids all around the world.

I remember seeing his name in a video game without knowing who he was, but I knew he was a legend in his name, also for being in a video game. Then I really got to know him through older X Games footage. I was late knowing him then years ago and I’m late again. That doesn’t take away from the absolute legend he was. I see it as that making him more of a legend. Reaching through time and still inspiring.

I really wish they would have touched on how someone so inspiring and at the top of their game could take their own life. It’s important for others dealing with this to hear. 🙏🏾

Hows he a hero? Hes a coward who shot himself in the head.
@sonofhorror19957 жыл бұрын
Due to possible mental health issues stemming from head injuries from 20+ years of riding. His death helped raise awareness of potential mental health issues caused by head injuries, so even in death, he was able to do one more thing that opened the eyes of millions. He was a true hero, suicide or not.
@ianvlogs48877 жыл бұрын
I think it was beyond common knowledge that suffering multiple blows to the head as well as multiple concussions is going to result in damage to the brain.. So no he didn't raise awareness to a thing.
@sonofhorror19957 жыл бұрын
I never said brain damage, I said mental health issues.
@sonofhorror19957 жыл бұрын
Are you stupid? Mental Health is not inherently linked to head injuries. For all anyone knows, he may have been depressed long before but never showed symptoms. It is easy to hide.

I remember walking around State College with him, Neil Hendrix and Rick Thorne in the Summer of '98. I am a skateboarder and worked at a skate shop there and the owners dad was part owner of Woodward so, I would get weekend passes there and alternate with the bike guy that worked at the shop. That's where I first met him. The day we all walked around was so much fun, especially when Dave rolled in town in his White Ford Cobra. Dude had style for miles, on and off his bike.

Dave Mirra was the first celebrity I ever met. He came to Portland with the Dew Action Sports Tour and I waited over an hour for him to sign my copy of his game. To this day it’s still my most prized possession to the point that I don’t even keep the game with me, it’s currently locked in a lock box in a storage unit because I don’t want to lose or damage it. If you weren’t there you’ll never understand the impact he had on the sport and he will forever be missed

LV70Mage He had Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy which is caused by having too many concussions in one lifetime. There have been several NFL players who commited suicide for the same reason. One symptom is uncontrollable depression.

He was so humble and encouraging. 1 of our riders had not even tried a Flair yet and Blaj went over to him and asked him how to do a flair. Needless to say Dave stood there and explained it all to him and Blaj did it and won in his class. It was amazing to watch Blaj take what Dave said and pull it off. Dave Mirra will always be respected and loved in the BMX industry.
