Bill Milkowski, who wrote co-wrote, Here and Now, Pat Martino's autobiography, organist Pat Bianchi, who played with Pat Marino, and Joe Donofrio, who was Pat Martino's manager, remember the Jazz Guitar Legend.
South Jersey Jazz Society presents a Celebration of Life and Legacy of the great jazz guitarist Pat Martino at this year’s Jazz @ the Point Festival, which runs from November 3 through 6 at Gateway Playhouse and Gregory's Restaurant in Somers Point, New Jersey. Artists performing at the festival include influential musicians and jazz icons who have interacted with Martino throughout the guitarist’s illustrious career that spanned more than five decades before he passed away in 2021.
The four-day event features Pat Bianchi, Peter Bernstein, Jeff Tain Watts, Jimmy Bruno, Dave Stryker, Mark Whitfield, Russell Malone, Sheryl Bailey, Paul Bollenback and more paying homage to Martino.
“The planned Celebration of Life and Legacy comes nearly a year to the day Pat passed away on November 1,” stated Joe Donofrio, artistic director, vice president and event producer on behalf of South Jersey Jazz Society. “It was not an ideal situation to try and gather musicians and audience during the past COVID cycle and look forward to recognizing and celebrating his genius with his many musical colleagues."
The Celebration of Life and Legacy will also be live-streamed on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5, which will provide an opportunity for an international audience to engage. The in-person event is free for all attendees (live-streaming will $10 per day), accepting only free-will donations from those in attendance thereby exposing as many people as possible to the magic that was and is Pat Martino. Proceeds from this event will be shared equally with the estate of Pat Martino. Gateway Playhouse will administer general seating.

Thanks. I heard Joyous Lake first in 1977, and combination of the great guitar and cool compositions makes it my all time favorite. I never heard him live or met m him but in the myspace days (!) I was seeing his posts. I got some of Pat’s band charts through Sherman Ferguson. I knew Delmar Brown from around 2002 or so. RIP all those guys!

My 16-year-old son and I went to see Pat Martino at Night Town in Cleveland Ohio back 2016, he signed A few recordings for us After the show and stood there and talked to me and my son for quite some time! As we were saying our goodbyes he gave us both hugs and thanked us for coming out to watch and we took photos together which I still have! He said he hoped to come back and play for us again sometime soon and sadly he never made it back! Class act and one heck of a player!!!

I’m so envious. I miss him a lot even though I never got to meet him. He touched me deeply as he did so many others.
