The Skyliners were fabulous, I appeared with them at the Apollo in Harlem NY in the late 50's. Over the years we would run into one another, and did speak on the phone a few times. I was so sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. He was a great guy. That show at the Apollo was with Tommy "Dr Jive" Smalls, of WWRL NY. Ray Brewster

"...But the most important thing is even if we're apart I'll always be with you..." It was the confluence of a simple music and the rapidly maturing radio wave that formed one of America’s most artistic gifts of sound to the world: Popular music. This synergy of a perceived abstraction at the speed of light instantly pleasured everyone everywhere with the musical experience. There can be no greater blessing than to have been in the moment of evolution. It can only happen once. Very much like the association of the songs it conveyed and the artists who recorded them.

I heard Dick Clark say (in the late 70s) that he thought Jimmy had the best vocals of anyone performing in the Golden Age of Rock 'n' Roll. He had a unique voice, that is for sure, and Janet and the guys were perfect. Jimmy had to resort to a "falsetto" in the last ten years or so to hit those difficult notes, but the sensitivity and appeal were always there.
