Yes and I like Keith take on Jimmy Buffet who happened to have a Restaurant in Plantation, Florida where one of my older Twin Sister’s Lived called “Cheeseburgers In Paradise Cafe” in the Fashion Square Mall. I Ate There Twice in the mid 90’s with my Wife & Two Kids! I like Keith’s comment also on Rick Derringer’s Famous Song! I played twice with Randy, Rick’s younger brother who was the Drummer in “The McCoys”

If you get to ask Keith Sykes another question, I have one that I've never found an answer to that he definitely knows. I'm told that Alex Chilton got the guitar riff for "In The Street" from Keith which he in turn nicked from a Blind Willie McTell song. What song was that?

My life would never had followed the adventurous path it has if I had not heard Jimmy Buffett waaaaay back when in my Scoutmaster’s station wagon heading out for a camping trip. Even as a kid, the first song hit me like a ton of bricks. That moment sent me on a course that has influenced me to this day. So thankful that I got to see him perform live twice in my lifetime. Just as Elvis was the king of rock and roll, Jimmy was the king of cheeseburgers and margaritas. Anytime I indulge in either, I get the urge to hear one of his songs. New Orleans made him the tremendous performer we all came to love, and Key West became his Graceland. While he rests in the pantheon of truly great musician/songwriters, his music will continue to proclaim his immortality forever. God Bless Jimmy Buffett!

I lived in Key West until 1984,and Mel Fishers Atocha wreck/Jimmy Buffet aura was very much in the air. This man made the laid back, island attitude a popular lifestyle through his amazing songs. Each one told a story and we love it so much. He found his "one particular harbor" yesterday. Peace to you Jimmy...

Such kind words, but how valid are they? But truthfully according to the word of God{Bible}only those who put their faith, and trust in Jesus Christ will Rest In Peace. This life lived with Booze, dope smoking, women, song and dance, endless party of tune out from God’s order of harmony while on earth, doesn’t parallel with Margaritaville.

My earliest memory of a Jimmy Buffett song was when I had just turned 13 years old. I was on my way to a KC Royals game with my cousins in a '76 Honda Civic. My older, and much taller cousin, was driving his car, with his knees, blasting Margaritaville on the AM radio. I never forgot the words to this day. Great Memories Last Forever 🏝️.... Thanks Jimmy

I shot some hoops with Jimmy backstage during his Recession Recess tour in Dallas in 1992. I was only 17 and he gave me some great life advice. I was supposed to take my SATs the next day but I give him credit for making me miss them after too many beers with his crew before, during and after the show. I was there with my brother and 2 of his friends and sadly they have all passed away also now. He was a very kind man. His music inspired almost all of my later travels from the Caribbean to Europe to Africa. I have heard many say his music was their life’s soundtrack. I couldn’t agree more.

Palm trees, sand, everything you could think of to complete the atmosphere including many of the famous Margarita machines. His volcanos blowing his bars, so many, many happy memories. Ladies and gentlemen, We gather here today to celebrate the life and legacy of a man who needs no introduction, a man whose music and spirit have touched the lives of countless individuals around the world. We come together to bid farewell to the one and only Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy was more than just a musician; he was a storyteller, a troubadour, and a true embodiment of the laid-back, carefree island lifestyle that he so eloquently sang about in his songs. He brought us tales of margaritas, cheeseburgers in paradise, and endless summers, transporting us to a world where worries faded away with each strum of his guitar. Born on December 25, 1946, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, Jimmy's journey began in a small coastal town, but his dreams were as vast as the ocean. He started as a struggling musician, playing in bars and cafes, but he had a vision, a vision of creating music that would make us smile, dance, and forget about our troubles. And boy, did he succeed. Jimmy's music wasn't just about the catchy tunes; it was about the philosophy of life that he shared with all of us. He taught us to embrace the simple pleasures, to savor the moments, and to live life to the fullest. He reminded us that it's not about the destination; it's about the journey, the people we meet along the way, and the stories we create. As we say goodbye to Jimmy today, let's not dwell on the sadness of his passing but rather celebrate the incredible impact he had on our lives. His songs became the soundtrack of our summers, and his concerts were like family reunions where we danced, laughed, and sang along with thousands of fellow Parrotheads. Jimmy Buffett was more than a musician; he was a philanthropist, an environmentalist, and a man who used his fame to make the world a better place. His passion for preserving the natural beauty of our planet and his dedication to charitable causes will continue to inspire us for generations to come. In his own words, "It's those changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes, nothing remains quite the same. With all of our running and all of our cunning, if we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane." Let us remember Jimmy not with tears, but with laughter and gratitude for the joy he brought into our lives. As we bid farewell to this legendary son of the sea, let's raise a margarita in his honor, and let the music play on. Jimmy, your legacy will live on in the hearts of Parrotheads everywhere, and we'll continue to live life to the fullest, just as you taught us. Fins up, Jimmy Buffett, and may you forever sail on those endless seas of paradise. You will be dearly missed, but your spirit will always be with us. Thank you for the music, the memories, and the endless summer days. Rest in peace, Captain Jimmy.

Something definitely didn't seem right after he canceled concerts went back into the hospital but hadn't been heard for about 4 months. Especially when summer time came. Perhaps we'll never know what his illness was but sail on home. 9/2/23 Update we found out he kept cancer hidden from everybody like a lot of stars have through the years that you wouldn't have known. Norm Macdonald, Chadwick pee wee Herman (Paul Rubens) few others But apparently all those years of fun in the Sun and the tropical lifestyle took its toll he ended up with skin cancer about six years ago but sadly it turned into lymphoma. I had watched your video prior to the gig and knew that you were going. I shared your video with them and after the show they sent me a short video of you close to the stage taking a video of Todd during the show! How cool I thought! I enjoyed the drummer video and your thoughts ring true. I’ ve been playing drums since 1965 and still do. Influences since childhood are Ringo, Charlie Watts, Ginger Baker, John Bonham, and Keith Moon. All of us who have natural timing and rhythm are blessed beyond measure and it is a joy to be able to play any musical instrument! He would come down from Southern Ms. University in Hattisburg and sit on a bar stool at Trader John's bar on Biloxi beach, pretty close to the famous Fiesta at the Fiesta club back in 1975. Talked a bit to him, he broke his guitar strings quite often, never was a big crowd there Year later my friend and I were driving and Margaritaville came on the radio, mid day blowing a fattie on Pass Rd. In Gulfport, we laughfed so hard we nearly crashed!! Passgagoula to Bay St. Louis Ms. Is the true area that launched Buffet's music, the French Quarter in N.O. came later, Key West Fl. Is where he really took off. Jimmy loved Gulf Shores Al. also, his sister may still run a resturant bar there. Jimmy is a Gulf of Mexico boy that made the big time and well deserved! Great stories. Loved Jimmy Buffett. Anyone else getting a Raylan Givens from Justified vibe from Keith ?👍😀

I have fond memories of listening to Jimmy Buffet's music while fishing off of Islamorada on my future father in law's fishing boat back in the 80's, my first visit to south Florida. I had never been a fan, but Jimmy's music perfectly captured the attitude and culture and there was no better soundtrack.

My next door neighbor turned me into a Parrothead somewhere about 1978 sitting in his Olds 442 with Pioneer Supertuner Cassette deck and 4 6x9s in the back deck while throwing the Frisbee on the lakeshore of Benbrook Lake . RIP J.Buffett " It's been a lovely cruise..."

It's a very sad day. Jimmy Buffett was a big part of the soundtrack of my youth. This was a great interview. I'd like to say, to expand on the comments regarding Jimmy Buffett's covering other writers songs. He also had a great talent for taking other major artists hits, Buffettizing them, and making them as good or better than the original, Brown Eyed Girl, Mexico (which I think he is credited for co-writing), Stars on the Water (first released by the writer Rodney Crowell and on heavy rotation at my favorite after work beer joint back in the day), and Southern Cross. I always thought Loggins & Messina's Vahevala (I like that song very much) would have been a natural but maybe it was too close to Jimmy's style. Again, it's a said day, Jimmy Buffett will be missed. Vios con Dios amigo. See you at the show on the other side.

A cover he did that I like is more recent: Gillian Welch's "Elvis Presley Blues". Really like the video too.
