This is a tribute video I produced for my best friends funeral, one of the most difficult videos I have ever had to make. For anyone who knew Karl I hope I have remembered him in a way fitting of such a great friend.
I will only ever represent Karl in a way he would want to be seen. Karl never told me he was ill and I never saw him during his long illness. Karl would never let his friends see him when he was ill.
Karl's mother requested this funeral remembrance video be posted on youtube, lets hope we can see Karl as he always wanted to be seen. She and other members of Karl's family are deeply saddened by the photos of Karl which have been used in web articles which show him suffering illness. I will always celebrate a life not a illness.
I knew Karl for 28 years before he became ill. He was an extremely private and proud person. I had the privilege of being part of his family who I still keep in contact with. They stand behind this video as it is a celebration of Karl's amazing life and achievements.

This video is not commercial to me, advertising was never placed on this video, I have no control on ad's seen on the side of this video. KZbin needs a memorial area devoid of any ad's.

stumbled across this vid, searching for home made jet footage. Having lost my best friend not even a year ago at the age of 23, I know how gutting it can be. What you said about the gifts being so much more important now is absolutely spot on mate. I've got things that my friend gave me when we were 6 years old. I am so happy I always kept them.

@moreleftpedal I don't know where the Derwent is now, lots of people have enquired on that believe me. I think that engine purchase was a perfect example of Karl's ability to turn something said into something done. There are lots of people who are gonna do lots of stuff, Karl just did it. He was always good at hunting down the most obscure thing, he bought for me some jetex motors from the 1960's, and again once he had a seed of desire he always followed through.

Am so sad to here that Karl has past away, i enjoyed the videos of the progression of his jet engines and now watching this i realize it was only a small part of the works of a supremely intelligent, resourceful and active man who had an equal drive to develop new projects as he had to help those around him. I'm sure he was an absolute scream of a guy and someone who i would have loved to drank a beer with and talked some bench engineering with. RIP

@glenntan1000 Sorry for the delayed reply. Karl had a large network of friends I never met, yes I remember the time he studied just after we left school. All you say about Karl is correct, he sure was curious! thanks for your thoughts here. Many people would see Karl in the jet videos and wonder where he went, quite often I would receive a mail asking where is Karl. I tended to respect the private aspect he always had and would not detail his situation.

@DrGoodwrench64 thank you, good luck with your turbo jet engine i can't express the fun you get playing with jets the thing which has hit home for me is so many stories related to me are known through Karl, his passing has made me realize his side of remembering the many thing we did has also vanished. The only other witness to many of these events was my video camera, sort of brings home the importance of recording even the most everyday thing.
