RIP Paul. Was always a pleasure listening to him. When I first got into soccer (as an adult) I found this show and he was on the very first show and I found it an absolute delight hearing his thoughts and stories! His energy seems to be nothing be positive around any and all even of the screen

I began watching football in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Mariner was very silkfull player, part of the 1982 England team that did not lose a game at that WC..i feel sad today..never heard a bad word against him..

He had every right to be proud of his goal against Hungary that ensured England qualified for the 1982 World Cup. England made hard work of qualification (losing to Norway for example) but played really well in the finals. I get the impression Mariner didn't take himself too seriously.

Where is the original longer version of this? It was an emotional roller coaster but one that showed what a legend Paul was and what he meant to his mates. A great pity that its disappeared, gutted my Dad (like so many others I suspect) didn't get opportunity to watch it.

I loved Paul Mariner. I always remember him managing my club Plymouth Argyle he inherited a club in a right toxic state left by Paul Sturrock & unfortunately relegated us. But he was just such a likable & nice guy & it was shame it didn't work out.
