Always enjoyed him so much on this show. His respect for the game and its players was tangible. Not looking for heat here, but for an English guy? Very keen and level headed takes on non-English football usually. RIP Paul, you were and will be missed.

I began watching football in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Mariner was very silkfull player, part of the 1982 England team that did not lose a game at that WC..i feel sad today..never heard a bad word against him..

He had every right to be proud of his goal against Hungary that ensured England qualified for the 1982 World Cup. England made hard work of qualification (losing to Norway for example) but played really well in the finals. I get the impression Mariner didn't take himself too seriously.

Where is the original longer version of this? It was an emotional roller coaster but one that showed what a legend Paul was and what he meant to his mates. A great pity that its disappeared, gutted my Dad (like so many others I suspect) didn't get opportunity to watch it.
