It's a real shame he has not been honored for great accomplishments

He has, just not be the HOF.

Yeah sure--Let's see-gambling on his own team both as a player and manager, having sex with an underage girl (claimed he didn't "know her age"). He was also suspected of being involved in a cocaine distribution network. tax evasion (spent 5 months in prison for that) etc etc--Rose was a disgrace-he should NEVER be in the HOF

I was "lucky" enough to see Pete Rose play baseball when the Cincinnati Reds visited The S.F. Giants at Candlestick Park, and also the Philadelphia Phillies came to San Francisco also. What a baseball player he was, it was like watching a baseball player from the 1910's, 1920's, and 1930',s. He played to win and also played as if the fans were "seeing" 👀 him or a baseball game for the first time. Pete Rose #14 in the whole history of major league baseball is one of only two players to surpass 4,000 hits; Ty Cobb being the other. Debate if Pete Rose belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame or not, if he does then so be it, if not then remove all and every "reference" to him and the historical items that are associated with him in the Hall of Fame. l myself am "conflicted" as to his banishment. l guess my "seeing" 👀 him play in actual games and he was the heart of the "Big Red Machine" of the 1970'e and all that, BUT everyday he came to the ballpark wether in Cincinnati, Philadelphia or Montreal, or name your visiting ballpark there in the locker rooms are/were posted the rules and conditions of betting and gambling on baseball as an active player or manager/coach. l know this is a lasting legacy of former Baseball Commissioner Giamatti, and even though he was a heavy "smoker" l think this is what finally "killed" him. RIP Peter Edward Rose you put a love of baseball into this at one time young lad's heart no one can take that away

and when he was in Montreal (and likely long before that) he used a corked bat--a Sports Memorabilia collector acquired a bat Rose used leading up to breaking Ty Cobbs record and had it x-rayed. And sure enough, the bat was hollow and had either cork or "super balls" in it. They suspect he also used corked bats in Philadelphia and even in Cincinnati.

Rest in peace, Pete Rose Sunset 83 Mr Rose was a player whose legacy was tainted by his vices. He gambled on baseball games, including his own Cincinnati Reds His actions are cautionary for athletes in future Rest in Respect

he also used a corked bat (certainly in Montreal and Philadelphia and there are suspicions he also used one in Cincinnati) and he provided money to buy cocaine to get out from all his debts

@bufnyfan1 thank you for sharing. The more cautionary, the better
