The day I learned Peter Jennings had died from lung cancer is the very same day I stood up , crumpled up a new pack of cigarettes and never smoked again !! fast forward to 2011 , I had a heart attack !! to this day I swear if I did not quit smoking when I did I would never have survived this heart attack ! thank you Peter Jennings for opening my eyes and saving my life!!! Rest in peace!!

I may not be American (I am a New Zealander) but I will never forget Peter especially when he did a special with young people and their views on the first Gulf War. He was fantastic and I used to look out for him on television here whenever there was news from America. He was a natural and national treasure to the United States. 🇺🇸 A wonderful journalist.

Peter Jennings will be greatly missed forever by us as fans of his and I grew up with him since the 1980's when I was kid in the 1980's but I loved how much he was missed by all his friends who worked at ABC throughout the years

A few weeks after Peter's death I received a letter from his widow, Kayce Freed. It surprised me that she took the time to write. But I'd written a letter to Peter after he announced on television that he had lung cancer. She mentioned this and told me that Peter was deeply moved by the many letters he received from people across the country thanking him for his great work and wishing him well with his health. That letter still is one of my prized possessions.

His legacy certainly doesn't continue with ABC. It continued for a few years with Gibson (who really didn't want to do it but took over to honor the memory of his good friend), but died when Gibson retired at the end of 2009. Jennings' legacy continues in the journalism industry, but not at ABC. The current ABC News should not be able to claim Jennings and Gibson as their own; Jennings would be appalled at how they tore down everything he spent 30 years building.

It will forever remain in my mind as Peter Jennings was the face and voice I and my peers saw and heard on tv as the news broke that the Twins towers had been attack on September 11th. We were watching in horror from Southern California.Jennings was a true journalist, never once did I get the impression he was trying to convince me one way or the other, he just reported the facts of the news and allow me as a viewer to make my conclusions. Today, lard have mercy. You can't even watch late-night tv anymore to relax and laugh without being peppered with fascist liberalism.
