I really enjoyed this, as I watch Rod playing his guitar my eyes watered. I read his books, when I’ve been on long sessions sat there on my own laughing out loud, with some of the antics he got up to, like poaching a swimming pool, if I remember correctly or as he used to say guesting. Even today after over 40 years of carp fishing, I still use his books as a reference, and to get inspiration to try different things of the past. Love and miss you our great friend.

One of the funniest stories was the one where he was night fishing 'Dead Horse' Lake with his mate Brian. A car pulled up on the far bank during the night, with the lights left on, as a couple got out and "performed a well rehearsed display of sexual athletics on the bonnet". At one point, as a pair of buttocks were lit up in mid air, Brian said "I know the face . . "! When the couple finished, Rod and Brian gave the couple a round of applause, and the lovers quickly jumped back in the car and left! As you say, Rod's books were funny but also very informative and inspirational.

The best bit of advice ever given/written "the fish isn't interested what tackle you've got on the bank, the only thing it is interested in is what's on the hook" from the carp strikes back.

The Carp Strikes Back is the most entertaining and educational fishing book i have ever had the pleasure of reading. Rod pretty much pioneered particle fishing and was definitely responsible for my obsession with carp and carp bait, a true legend and pioneer. RIP Rod.

When i was a kid we stayed at the Lincolnshire lido and I met rod while maggot bashing he was all ultra culted up and i thought that's a bit of me that....and 35yrs later i still love it.....thanks rod r.i.p.matey thanks for the signed carp strikes back you gave me i will never part with it. Pure treasure.

l was a bit of a late comer compared to these legends 88/89 season l got the carp bug, loved every bit of information they gave us in carp fisher and there books, this video and talk captures the magic and mystery of why we go fishing r.i.p rod you will be remembered forever along with all the greats in our sport.

1 of if not the most iconic man in carp fishing history...you can go to any lake in decent weather nowadays and it is full of people thanks to people like Rod when he started they were empty and nobody even knew what was in them. I cant even imagine fishing places not having a clue whats in there going to places like Cassien in the hayday it must of been a right buzz, so many reasons i wish i was born 30 year earlier!! haha

@@Paulie52UK Trying think back to the mid 70s when I fished there, it was a series of gravel pits called Johnsons and the one I fished was called The Railway, I recall Jim Gibbinson fishing the pit behind me as well.

I didn't meet Rod, but he did write to me once, I had ordered some boilie mix in the early 1980's, told him where I was fishing and he sent me a different bait and the letter explaining why. He was right of course, he sent me some "Seafood blend" and I caught, epitomised him, wanted me to catch as much as he wanted my business, came across as a decent man.

OMG watching this talking about jelly beans etc, when i was about 7 i once got bored and put a jelly baby on the hair rig and caught a 12lb ghosty on my little firebird telescopic rod...never forget that shit haha
