Three years after this video and almost all of the non rebuilt F59 units have been withdrawn from service and sit in Keller Yard. Only 857 remains as of today in service on the Antelope Valley Line. Since I kid I always dug the bold, aggressive, and mean aesthetics of these beasts. Their prime movers also just sound beautiful when being notched up and the clouds of smoke they would produce added to the tough look of them. RIP EMD F59PH.

Metrolinkguy881 they’re rebuilding the F59PHs and F59PHIs and they’re donating the Mi Train F59PH to the Steam Railroading Institute to run excursions with Pere Marquette 1225 and for the undergoing constructions of the Mi Train stations. Even they’re solding the F59PHs To Sounder Transit, West Coast Express, Coaster, and Virginia Railway Express. Even they’re solding the F59PHIs To Altamont Corridor Express

Very good catch of that NPCU ! Also, 459 has cab damage and also hit a Car, cab damage mysteriously altered the horn. That horn gives me the chills. Eeek!

What Metrolink should do is until the cab cars are deemed safe again or they get new cab cars, they should use their old locomotives and not BNSF Dash 9 units.

Well yes but you don't have to worry about that because that was back in 2015 & 2016 and the cab cars are already repaired with more built-in safety features and the BNSF Dash 9 Units are now removed so there really is no problem but I do agree with you but I actually liked the BNSF's horns because they were really loud and well at times a little too loud and thanks for the comment and I like your profile picture of Union Pacific locomotive 8485 I miss that one!!!!! Dude I miss them. I honestly cry when I see this because it was such a huge part of my childhood matching these trains. I can not sweat enough how much I want to see them again. I can’t believe they dumped these amazing engines for stupid hybrid engines :( when I die I want a f59 to be at my funeral 💜💜

I miss these original diesel electric Locomotives they’ve been around forever I wish they can come back with the original cab cars of Metro link! And I wish I amtrak Haul the entire surfliner coaches

+Noodle Train Yes you are absolutely correct. Sometimes, some engineers would activate both the P2 and the K5LA horns either at the same time like you see there or separately. I personally enjoy listening to just the K5LA on its own, but both of them together actually sounded pretty cool in my opinion, glad you caught that... :)

Yes I'm afraid so that the F59s on the Surfliner are all going to be replaced by 14 new SC-44 diesel electric locomotives and that's very sad especially for me and a lot of other people... As for the P42DCs I don't really think they will be painted as a Surfliner scheme but anything can happen but as of right now I don't think so.... But yes thank you for your question!!!

Metrolink and Amtraks commuter divisions are getting new engines to replace some of their old ones in Their fleet. The F125s are being tested and will be for a while at least 4 to 5 months. The SC-44s are the same way. It's called moving with the times. It will be the end of an era indeed, but when one era ends a new one begins.

so im to sumize that none of the bombardier cab cars run anymore as cabs for metrolink\ like they do in seattle(SOUNDER)/Ontario(GO) and tri rail among the many..of note GO is replacing there cab cars with new ones some of the cabs are 20 plus years old the cab cars 200 series are being used as reg coachs when replaced by a new cab car much like they do with some cab cars in chicago

Ha ha yeah that was a normal thing that back in 2016 in response to an accident that occurred in Oxnard in 2015 Metrolink needed to enhance their Rotem Cab Cars for more advanced safety standards in the nose portions, so they did and while they were upgrading their cab cars in their place until the cab cars were ready to be put back into service Metrolink leased some of BNSF's AC4400CW locomotives to be placed on the back of each and almost every Metrolink Train so yes that's a pretty good reason why and it was a very interesting thing to see..... +The San Diego Railfan...

@OmegaBread Railfanning The 3-Chime Ohio Brass Air Whistles were disconnected in 1996-97, the K5LAs still exist, just as backup horns, the Bombardier Cabs stopped leading in late 2011, many were converted to coaches, the F59PHRs are still in service in May 2020, and the MP-36s aren't going anywhere.

I'm confused by the title of this video, and this video in general. First off, where did you get your information from that these engines are being retired "early next year" which would have been 5-7 months ago now. Or was this railfan speculation like often happens? Not a single one of the engines in your video from LAST year have been retired, nor have any retirement plans at the moment. All Amtrak F59PHI's just returned from rebuild which was done between 2016-2017. Might want to check facts before making a video like this.
