With Indiana Jones and The Dial Of Destiny on the way, now is a great time to return to a small yet fun set of games inspired by the movies. In fact, one of these very games is why I like Indiana Jones at all! So, let us not delay any further and see what Indy has cooked throughout the years.

Matty, your halloween story reminded me of this. I watched starwars with my dad when i was 4 and have been a lifelong fan ever since. When i was 6 my dad saw indiana jones and the temple of doom was coming on on the channel 99 tv guide. He made me watch a bit before I realized it was the same actor from star wars and indiana jones. It immediately made me a fan of IJ. Fast forward to when im 8. We have costume day at school. A kid at my table comes dressed as Indiana jones with a whip, hat, satchel, and fake beard and everything. I asked him if he was Indiana jones and he said “YOU KNOW WHO THAT IS” and my response was “HAVE YOU SEEN STAR WARS” and his reply back was “ITS THE SAME GUY” It was like that moment in Step Brothers when they say “did we just become best friends?!” “yup!” Lol. We stayed close friends for years until he moved away. Still have him and his mom on facebook.

Matt, u hit it on the head. That car ride home was the greatest. Reading the manual to see what enemies or characters were described, or the little hints the devs would put in there, was so much fun on the way home to play the games. U did such a great job of describing that feeling man. I loved opening those games and spending time with the manuals! We get nothing like that now. It's such a shame these days because companies do it all digitally and don't put in ANY effort into the manual. Regardless if it's on screen or on paper. CHEERS!

I believe a complete Infernal Machine copy would come in those old pc game cereal boxes with a big manual separated from the disc's case. That's why there's no manual. That said, Infernal Machine's N64 version holds surprisingly well. Some unfair puzzles aside, it was a great adventure for its time.

I really love how passionate you are about the manual. You really nailed that whole experience of getting the game and the booklet being the first thing to examine before getting home. I distinctly remember doing that when I first got Final Fantasy VII and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. The booklets also added that extra amount of weight to the case so that you really feel you're getting your money's worth (or your parent's money at the time). That's been lost with games since I guess the PS3/Xbox 360. I have the Xbox version of Emperor's Tomb and honestly never looked at the booklet so I'll have to go check that out!

Just a note, you didn't have to hit enemies tree times to disarm them in Emperor's Tomb. If you clicked and held the button, you would imediatly disarm an enemy by doing a whip-grab. If you did this same attack on an already disarmed enemy, you would do a grab around the neck, and pull them forward for a punch. So it seems you completely missed a type of move with the whip that is very useful.

Hi. I know I am late to the party on this, but I just had to comment on the fact that Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine didn't have a manual for PC. I bought that game brand new on PC when it first came out and it came in a big box as PC games often did during that time and I know it did have a manual. I unfortunately traded in a long time ago, so I don't have it anymore, which is unfortunate!! But I do remember the manual being fairly intensive. I think it was just black and white, but I can't be sure. By the way, I super enjoy your content and love retrospectives as there are a lot of games that I grew up with and it is great to remember how awesome they were!! I also agree with you that it is unfortunate that manuals in video games have all but disappeared!! There is a video game store in my city that actually sells old retro video game manuals. They have some old N64 game manuals that I have considered picking up at times!! Anyways, thanks for the great content!!

The manual is great on PC too, the diary shows a CD instead of the console Controller support is clunky (you can mod Xbox controller scheme), but even with a keyboard and mouse works ok. One weird thing it has, it that the weapon select is on the arrow keys by default, but also works with the scroll wheel, and it’s mentioned nowhere

The psp version of Staff of Kings was honestly a pretty good beat 'em up. I played the Wii version growing up and it's not wonderful but it is entertaining for a Wii game - the shooting and fighting works pretty well.

I have the PC version in the box. It has a big ol manual, one of those old PC giant booklets.

Honestly really cool, I've never heard of some ofthese games before! PS you saying you like hand to hand combat systems is making me hope for potential future yakuza videos
