Great video! I have one just like the variant you show. Looks to be in the same condition too. My first rifle, my dad bought it for me new around 1976.

I got one of these rifles for Christmas 1961, fancy stock, Gold hammer and trigger. The gun has a 15lbs trigger. Unreal heavy. The frame is zinc and pitted. My son has it now and it is going to his daughter. I even brought the rifle to grammar school for show and tell. I got a 100 for my demo Infront of my school. No issues at all. It now needs rebuilt and a new firing pin. I also sent your video to my son. Thank you for doing this.

My very first rifle at Christmas for a 7 yr old in '70. That gun definitely taught me how to shoot and hunt as a kid. Still have it, still shoot it after about half a million rnds. Still have the receipt for $43. I just saw a guy selling 3 of them for $330 apiece in the same used condition as mine. I thought he was nuts.

My buddy had one in .22 magnum. It was my first experience with .22 WMR. I've been a fan of that caliber ever since. I really enjoy your channel.

My uncle had one of these back in the late seventies. He bought it used. I rather liked it. It shot pretty well, I thought. I didn't target it on paper. I just plinked with it. But I hit everything I was aiming at. It was rather fun to shoot. I'm guessing he sold it at some point. I'd like to have it now.

My last trip in July to Washington my Uncle gave me my Grandfathers M-49.Great shape and shoots awesome, nice grain walnut stock and pre serial number. The painted receiver is in very good shape and no rust for being in the Pacific Northwest for 40+ years. Thanks for the video.

Andy makes run of the mill ordinary stuff like this little shooter fascinating. I never miss an episode. It’s comparable to the NRA museums and J. M. Davis museums with narration.

I didn’t think twice when you said “wallered out”. That’s exactly how I would have described it. I’m from the Appalachian mountains in Western North Carolina. It’s good to hear folks from other parts of the country use that terminology. I have a Model 66 that my grandma bought for my grandpa and that same day he took it and won a turkey shoot with it. My dad has one of these Model 49 rifles. Interesting economy firearms for sure. Love the channel and always look forward to your videos.

We own a 49R, not sure when manufactured...recently repaired, it still can be a little sporadic in operation...evidently the gun has been ridden hard, my gunsmith said the barrel is very worn...we will get it out to the range, probably once or twice a year, just because we shoot all our guns at least once a year...at worst it runs fine as a single shot, it just jams up sometimes when being levered...the missus tells me it was her brother's gun, shot a lot in the California desert, and we are both happy it works even a little bit...
