I was there in 2001 and was shocked at the destruction I saw. Reconstruction had started, I.e. new airport but the neighborhood around was just abandoned and bullet ridden houses. And the high rises that had previously been for communication and the President’s offices were destroyed, the ruins still there. I really enjoyed your video as it showed me places I remember and reminded me of the stories I heard when I was there. Thank you. And by the way, I will plan a trip back to see this famous tunnel I had heard about.

I was a journalist when the war broke out. However, I didn’t have to leave the states, the refugees came to us. Our city was flooded with Bosnian children who were years in concentration camps. When they arrived, eventually, some were committing suicide in my city. They couldn’t cope. We adopted two of those children and their families. They worked hard. Very, very hard. Today they are college educated and immensely successful members of the United States. The Bosnian community in my city set up its headquarters and helped each refugee to get settled. The haunted looks on those Bosnian children’s faces still makes me wanna cry. Thankfully, we were able to resettle a few of them. I’m sure they’ll never forget the abject brutality of the Serbs.

The Serbs did not prevent anyone from leaving Sarajevo. All the Sarajevo Jews were taken out by the Serbs to Belgrade, those who remained were victims of the Muslim leadership to whom they served as human shields. The Muslims started this conflict by shooting at a Serbian wedding in the center of Sarajevo, expecting that the Serbs would behave like they did during World War II when the Muslim Nazi units slaughtered them like rabbits. All this, about which these alleged innocent victims complain today, is their own fault.
