I too am from India and fondly remember Willis Conovers Time for Jazz with the catchy introductory notes and his unmistakeable voice. It was through this program on VOA that I first listed to jazz greats like Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Chet Baker and Dave Brubeck. I was addicted to the program which paved the way for my lifelong love for jazz and jazz fusion. This video and others of Willis are a poignant reminder of the past especially with Brubeck's recent passing.

At one time, a LONG time ago, Willis Conover was my idol. I worked with Willis at WWDC in Washington (before VOA)...he was the star, I was the "Music Director" at the station, which meant I was the record librarian, pulling records for the DJs at the station. But not for Willis...he produced his own show. From him I learned how to be a radio announcer, and learned about and acquired a taste for jazz. I owe him a lot - he really started my radio and TV career.

I too remember Willis Conover with fondness as a British serviceman in the Middle East in the mid 50s. My introduction to jazz for which I have always been grateful.

Absolutely right. The time of idealists is gone? There wasn't such a time. He knew it. Pushkin, Lermontov, Nabokov, Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Bulgakov, Voinovich, Vysotsky all were idealists who did know. Лучше всех наше положение описал Гоголь. И был таков. Птица летит, конечно.Пока тут есть ресурсы... До середины Днепра вряд-ли. Такая простая вещь. Законы термодинамики.

Willis Conover, the hidden jazz master. The first time I heard about him was on a segment of Joe's fresh air with Terry Gross. I didn't even know he existed.
