Quite a few English comedy and crime programmes had seasons filmed in Australia in the 1970’s. I suppose production costs and budgets allowed for it during that period. There was the notional attachment between the two countries as well. Britain as ‘Old Blighty’ and Australia as a member of the ‘British Commonwealth of Nations’. Tastes seemed solidly fastened to Anglo-Australian preferences. Still, it resulted in some pretty good British comedy that we may not have been enjoying in other circumstances.
