Remembrance Day was originally called "Armistice Day" to commemorate the armistice agreement that ended the First World War on Monday, 11 November 1918 at 11am. The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
It has since become a day to remember the service and sacrifice of all those who have died in the line of duty since World War I.
