I dont care how popular they were bands like The Doors, Velvet Underground, Iggy and the Stooges, MC5, The Ramones, Television, New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Wipers, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Brian Jonestown massacre and The Strokes made more of an impression and had more of an influence. They are a great band that's never in doubt but the greatest American band is a stretch.

I was the exact ‘right age’ to get REM. I’m Georgia and bought Murmur for $6.98 at Turtles Records and Tapes’ for Radio Free Europe and bought several other tapes but didn’t do deep dives into the albums. I wish I’d payed more attention at the time becuase all I had was time.
