Alsalam Alaykum, I am a reverted Muslim, my mother alhamdullilla reverted to Islam as well. I am working so I take care of all her expenses. This year beside what I send to her to cover her basic needs I decided to send her what I though was my zakat. I read a Hadith which says that Zainab was allowed by the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) to give zakat to her husband and that doing so it is double rewarded because your are giving it to your family member and a person in need. I thought because I am a woman an in Islam a woman shouldn't have the burden of the family I was allowed to consider my mother as a person who can receive my Zakat, today I was reading about the ruling of zakat and I found very clearly in all the videos and web sites that for a husband is not allowed to consider giving zakat to his wife, parents or children as this is his responsibility, but I don't find if it is allow for a daughter to give zakat to her mother. Please advise as I am afraid that what was given may not be accepted as zakat and I may have to give before the year ends.

I know this is 2 years ago, but as far as I know it is ok for you to give zakat to your mother, however it is not ok for a son to give zakat to his mother as it is his duty to provide for her.

In this year 2016 thus far, there have been well over 200 attacks in the name of Islam and well over 1500 deaths in the name of Islam. But in the name of all other religions combined there have been 0 attacks and 0 deaths; even by Islamophobes there have been 0 attacks and death. please read all,,,,,,,,,,,the more people like you who try to defame islam,,, the more non muslims that are out there want to know is this the real islam,,,and while they are researching and read the true history of our beloved prophet mohd [pbuh] the more they realise islam is the truth...that is why islam is the fastest growing religion in the world...muslim,s are not those who spread mischief or kill innocent people,,, there are many sect of muslims out there that say we are muslims and follow what islam tells us to do but in fact they are liars and deveint they are not muslims,,,,, just disguised as muslims working for differant governments for wealth and the luxurys of this world, they will have nothing in the hearafter so please dont judge all,, there will be 73 differant sects of muslims on the face of the earth and ALLAH[swt] will send 72 to hell for disobeying him...so i hope that gives you a little insight of ALLAH[SWT] and how he will punish those who spread falshood and mischief on the earth....

I am saving money for my kids, in registered savings account that I cannot access, future university so they can avoid interest associated with school fees. It is something we committed to regardless of our financial status. We do not own a home or any other asset. I am told I have to pay Zakat on this money. From what I understand it only applies when money is used.

I have paid zakat in the past towards building masjids. I understand now that zakat can't go towards building masjids. Am I required to now go back and repay that money to a valid zakat recipient?

It is mentioned that one needs to pay Zakah on properties that are put up for sale. What should be done if the property is yet to sell and the person does not have enough cash to pay Zakah for the property? Just to give an example, say a person lost his job and is spending from his savings. He has 10K left in his bank account. He decides to put his house worth 500K on sale few weeks before the Zakah date. The property is likely to sell in a couple of months. Now, it will not be possible for him to pay Zakah for 500K, which is 12.5K.

I have no religious credentials and this is just my personal opinion based on studying the issue of zakat in depth. 1) It's his personal house so it doesn't get included regardless so the answer is no. 2) The day he decides to put the house up for sale, you can compare that to let's say someone wrote him a check for $500k instead. He still wouldn't have to pay zakat on that since he hasn't had it for a year. So again the answer is no. Just my opinion may Allah guide you.

AsSalamoaleikum Imam, All bank products should be Haram. All commodities connected to Wall street are super Haram. Sadly the Muslim scholars/community haven't done an in-depth study of the intetnational monetary system. Currency by its very nature is illegal. A good place to start for a humble student would: 1. a read of creature from Jekyll island 2. Ascent of money by Niall furguson. 3. The American dream (a 30 min cartoon) The 30 min production of the American dream is an easy watch for anyone desiring an initiation to understanding the financial system. Must be watched multiple times tho.

You calculate your cash balance. And pay 2.5 % of it by reducing the exempted amount.

@@RadjiMubarakElMobizy no. 2.5% of your total savings at the end of every lunar year. For example if my total earning is 150000 in last year and my expenses are 100000 in last year. For the remaining savings of 50000/- I have to pay zakat. Where I can exempt a certain amount like 5000 that will vary based on the value of currency. Ask an ulema for more clarifications. Allah knows the best.

So doesn't it beg the question when a lot or rules made up by a time we no longer live anymore. Yet we are still thinking that same way? Back in those days live stocks, farms were the norm of life. We aren't in the same time. It's an ancient rule book that didn't see where future will go. like in Qur'an it says, "I gave you horses to travel". and who use horse to travel this days? You see all of these are ancient lifestyle. Which is barely any similarities in our modern life. It's a not a book of knowledge. If it was, it would have said things futuristic. And these scholars forcefully tries hard to connect dots and often disagrees with each other. So it becomes opinions at the end of the day. Which turns religion into an opinionated thoughts.

I wonder how you have experienced Islam to speak on it so confidently. God did not send down His messengers and His revelation to mankind to tell them about their future inventions. Why would God do that? In God’s revelations, God speaks of his blessings and creations (such as the one you mentioned in which God speaks of how animals were created to ease travel for mankind) among important matters of how humans should deal in life. These morals were intentionally left to be non-specific in certain instances so that individuals may interpret it in their own way (such as the verse that states that a person should not lead themselves to their own destruction I.e. cannot engage in something that knowingly harms them) and in others that are straight-forward and do not leave room for interpretation (such as the forbidding or drinking alcohol, the forbidding of murder, the obligation to give charity mentioned in this video, etc). It is individuals who decide to nitpick the minuscule things within this Holy Revelation from The Most Wise and Most Merciful who confuse me. Ironically enough, such individuals are also mentioned in God’s Holy Book. The mentioning occurs in verses 26 and 27 of the 2nd chapter in the Holy Quran, the same book you deemed as historical. Read into them if you’re interested, but I fear you’re only here to argue and are not here to exchange knowledge 🤷🏽‍♂️

It truly amazes me. Human beings can be so fascinating!! If the Quran only had strict commands of what to do and what not to do, individuals will describe it as a dictatorship and an enslavement. If the Quran only had liberal, vague rulings and guidelines for life, individuals would say it is all opinion-based and too vague such as yourself. What portions must it be in to please each person? There are multiple verses in God’s Holy Book that mention one of His 99 names “The Independent”. God is not in need of your faith, my faith, nor of anyone’s faith.
