I have had one in .308 for a couple years, they are indeed tack drivers. My good experience with the .308 convinced me I needed one in .300 Win mag as well.

The 5R rifles are production Remington rifles, however they are a non-catalog item with limited production. They are a nice rifle, they seem to shoot as well as custom rifles costing several times as much.

great video mate.. I'm from Australia and I own a remington 700 in .308.. can't wait to get the .300mag.. ballistics are far more superior to the 308..

The stock is very straight, certainly designed for prone use and so the rifle does come pretty much straight back and not up. The Remington 5R rifles impressed me enough that I have one in each caliber that they make them in.
@31429911 жыл бұрын
Thanks, the rifle seems to have real potential.

The recoil is noticeable but not painful as the rifle with scope, mounts, rings and bi pod is fairly heavy. It does give you a good shove, and when you touch it off it feels like something important must have just happened.... I fired 46 rounds the other day and my shoulder was a bit achy, but no bruise.
@hondot87406 жыл бұрын
I put a little weight in my stock and it helped alot. I'm 43yrs old I feel the 300 alot more now days than in my youthful days being an Army Operator. The added weight helps alot. Good shooting and God bless you all

I love the fireball coming out of the 300 Win Mag. I like the camera angle at 1:48

The shooting mat is a Condor brand case/mat, good piece of kit and I'm glad to have it. Beats lying on the wet ground, that's for sure.

I'm new to the round myself, I've thought for years that I would like to have a .300 RUM, but the .300 Win Mag is more practical.
@31429911 жыл бұрын
Sure, the scope is a Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5x30x50mm. I've used it a couple years on a target .308 and fired a couple thousand rounds with the scope on that rifle, no problems what so ever. The adjustments are good, positive and repeatable and the glass is good. I'm actually considering purchasing another one.

Another enjoyable video. .300 Win Mag is a favorite of mine.

Lol thats good to know. I noticed the stock seems nice and straight so thats always a bonus when things are hurtling back at you... I read up a bit on the 5R, thats a pretty impressive rig you got there :-)

I'm new to loading the .300 Win mag, but a buddy has one and he's been getting something like ten reloads out of his brass. I'm neck sizing so that ought to help a lot with case life.

Good stuff. I had a BDL in .300 WIn mag that I foolishly sold off. It still galls me to think that someone out there is shooting my 700. Great rifle, great cartridge. What brand of shooting mat are you using in the video?

lol those non canting bipods can sure be a pain in the arse.. Iv always wanted to get a precision 300 win mag for launching 200 grain Sierra Match Kings at long ranges. I would imagine it would be quite a step up from my old Parker Hale 30/06 and its rainbow trajectory lobbing them in! lol Hows the recoil on a rig like that? :-)

Thanks. I have some new components to put together for this summers shooting season, I hope I can assemble a load that shoots as well as the rifle allows.

is the 5r a custom rifle or is it made by remington exclusively? These look like really nice rifles...

Hello , what's your Bushnell scope model on this? Seems like you run a few Bushnells on your 5rs. Checking back on your 5r vids I ended up getting one in .308 and it's great. The newer ones have same stock still just different color pattern. Textured green web and it used to be smooth like yours. Other than that same tied and true seems like. Thinking of another in .300 WM or a Sendero SF II. Pretty much a toss up between the two since both are great haha. Similar HS stocks. Don't think the Sendero is 5r rifled but could be mistaken in that. Maybe comes down to if I want the same gun or different ha. Basically would push further with the .300 than a .308 would be the goal. Thanks
@3142998 жыл бұрын
+Landry Jones The scope is a Bushnell 6500 Elite 4.5-30x50. The same scope has been renamed by Bushnell and is now sold as the "Elite Tactical LRS 4.5-30x 50mm". Guess the old name was not 'tactical' enough.... I think you are right, the Sendero uses regular rifling instead of the 5R pattern. Don't think you would go wrong with either rifle.
@langedenver8 жыл бұрын
+314299 Shooting Channel haha I see what you mean about the scope name they always gotta come up with new ways to market stuff.. Also yeah both are nice although it seems the Sendero is more mass produced than the 5r, and I'm not sure of the overall barrel quality of the Sendero and I wonder about it. While the Sendero seems to have a good barrel the 5r is stated as match grade. Otherwise just cosmetic differences and barrel difference between the two. 5rs they only seem to make a limited number per year. Heard rumors 5r is custom shop but I'm not sure or if they make it on the normal production line on a limited schedule. Might call Remington and ask out of curiousity...Seems semi custom nonetheless being a limited production rifle. Thanks again.

@@314299 i have to disagree. I had the rem 700 LR in 300 win mag and the recoil through the 26in barrel was very distasteful. I never had the barrel threaded for a brake but wish i had before i sold it. Think now i will pick one of these up with the threaded muzzle and throw a brake on it to try again.

Alliant 4000 MR 72 grains Hornady 178 A Max gives 2960 fps out of an E.R. Shaw 24 inch barrel. Have shot .368 inch 3 shot group @ 107 yards. Maybe your Remington would digest that combination.

How many yards will the 300 win mag shoot flat ?
@3142993 жыл бұрын
Technically speaking no round shoots "flat", all bullets fall as soon as they leave the barrel. So I guess you have to define how much drop you would tolerate to consider a distance as being "flat" shooting.
@ShockAndAwe4179 жыл бұрын
Would you say the 5R barrel is worth getting this model over the Police model? I'm currently looking into both in 300WM and can't really make a decision.
@3142999 жыл бұрын
+ShockAndAwe417 My 5R rifles are the quickest and easiest to clean of any barrels I have used and also the most accurate I own. I dont have a lot of experience with the Police model, other than using a friends a bit (his was in .308). I dont think you can go wrong with either rifle.
@31429911 жыл бұрын
Probably a bit too fast. BTW good job working the target.
Fold up bipods are not solid enough for me. I have to feel as locked in like the bolt to the chamber. Then my groups show it.
@3142999 жыл бұрын
+easydoz1 With a rear bag it seems to be solid for me.

You have probably been asked this a lot, but what scope are you using on this rifle?
@31429910 жыл бұрын
The scope is a Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5x30x50mm.
@Firemedic7129 жыл бұрын
do your groups open up with that rate of fire? I find my 270 opens up about an inch if I fire more than 5 rounds in a 1-2 minute period
@3142999 жыл бұрын
+Firemedic712 I was not shooting as fast as the video would indicate, I edited out most of the time between shots as it gets boring watching it at the actual speed. From what I've seen with this rifle is that there is no significant difference in group size shooting at a moderate pace and shooting really slowly.
@Firemedic7129 жыл бұрын
I gotcha, great editing! Had me fooled!

whats your opinion on this setup on an XLR evolution or carbon chassis?
@31429911 жыл бұрын
That ought to be a good set-up, but personally I think it would be a waste to replace the stock the rifle comes with as it is a very high quality aluminum bedded H-S Precision unit that costs $399 if you were to buy it by itself.
@durhamdf11 жыл бұрын
314299 Shooting Channel Hey I am trying to decide between the 5R in .308 or .300 win mag. How does the recoil feel with the .300 win mag with such a heavy barrel. Does it help? I want a rifle I can shoot all afternoon and not have to ice my shoulder all night :) But I'd like to be able to go after the 1000 yard targets at my local range.
@31429911 жыл бұрын
Deez Nuts The .300 Win is heavy enough that it is not uncomfortable, but adding a brake would be a good idea and would make the gun more enjoyable to shoot over a lot of rounds.
@yannbilodeau76128 жыл бұрын
You seem to have an aftermarket recoil pad. Which one is it?
