Very cool early copy Remington model 700 with a Weaver V8 scope…looking forward to working up a dynamite load for it. Y’all have a good one!

I have the same rifle in 270Winchester. It's definitely an ADL. Pressed checkering. They had the bolt jeweled on the BDL even on the old guns. The new rifles have laser cut checkering. The Remington 721and 722 had a plain stock but could be ordered with hand cut checkering. They were before the 700. The old remingtons are real shooters as long as the bore is good. They made great barrels!!!!

I have a 1964 in 6mm Rem.That is a BDL from that time period in your video. My SN is 963XX. To find the exact date of manufacture you need to check the barrel for the 2 letter code stamped just in front of the recoil lug. Mine has shot a 5 shot group under 1/2 mil with Core-Lokt bullets a few times. It has killed at least 100 deer since 1980. I LOVE it!

On the left side of the barrel close to the receiver is a date code. It will tell you the month and year it was made. Remington owners society website has the info to decipher the code. Nice rifles. Long live Remington arms co.

Canadian here. I thought that a ‘raffle’ was a draw that you entered into, in order to win a prize? Joking aside, I have two 700s, one is a bdl, the other is an adl, both have stainless steel barrels with the hemispheric lands. I think that Remington called it “button rifling”. Both are in 7mm rem mag, IMHO, one of the best all around cartridges ever made. Brings a tear to my eye when I remember the hunts I did with my dad and these two guns.

I have a 700BDL which I bought new in the middle 70s. It does have a jeweled bolt, black fore cap on the stock, and the hinged floor plate. There was a trigger recall on the original models citing the possibility of discharge with the safety on. Though I registered my recall with Remington, they never responded. I replaced it myself with a Timney. The trigger felt the same (excellent) between them.

Definitely a ADL no hinged floor plate, the bolt isn't jeweled and it's a lower grade of wood the BDL was the top shelf model super high gloss walnut with a black forend tip and a black cap on the pistol grip with hand cut engraving on the wood and the bolt was jeweled, just a fancier rifle but the barreled action is the exact same and preform the same, just one cost a lot more i have the first model BDL in 7mm rem mag my grandpa bought new in 1969 its like it came out of the box my grandpa left it to me when he passed in 1990 and ive never shot it but i know he bought 2 boxes of ammo for it and he killed 2 deer with it and I have a box and 3 bullets that came with it when he bought it so its only been shot 17 times that goes to show how times has changed people didn't waste ammo back in them days, its never had a scope put in it i been thinking about taking it out and killing a deer with it im just afraid of scratching it what would you do with it

Was initially going to buy a CDL in .243 but ended up picking up a sweet 1951 Model 70 in 30-06. The 700 I picked up is a SPS Varmint in .308 and it's the new Rem Arms, I think they're definitely getting back to where they once were.

Great older 700. Old Pre-64 winchesters had a true thumb cut-out notch on the left side of the receiver for stripper clips. I really like the scope and scope rings, exterior windage/elevation adjustments. In regard to the 30-06, it’s tried and true and the bullet weight range is very generous - from 55 gr accelerators to 220 grs. Try that in any other caliber.

Awesome guns, ive got the 1966 700 bdl 270 with weaver mounts and a Leopold straight 6 power. My mom bought it for my dad in 66 the year i was born. Such a great set up on bases and scope. Always on sight. Still shoots a better group than my new arms. It does have a pretty good kick if your not holding it tight. But always a go to gun that is never off or any other perks. Hoping yours is true as mine.

I got my old 700 a few years ago, bought old because it was cheaper and ind near virgin condition, the prettiest rifle till today... Then just out of curiosity started checking out the new ones. 3 out of 4 had rust spots in the store, right out of the box! Cannot come even close to the smooth polished oxidation of the old one. I'm sure that the capability of the new barrel and custom trigger are better but for my needs (up to 300y in 30-06) I got no issues with the old gal.

The first digit in the serial number is the month it was made. The next two digits is the year it was made on Remington 700s. I just bought a 700bdl in 7mm magnum and it was made in may of 75. The first old Remington I have found with a flur de lis checkered BDL stock. The first digit of the serial number is 5 for may and the next two digits is 75 on my rifle. The last two digits I will keep to myself.

They started with serial number 1000 in 1962 and they stopped making the charging cut outs in 1968 and they had a six digit number. The letters in the serial number will tell you date of manufacture.

Remington 700 CDL? If it looks, shoots and feels good to you, it doesn't matter what other people think about it but the last time I had the itch to buy a Remington 700 I tried a CDL and it did not fit me at all. The comb height and rounded forend felt wrong so I was never able to feel comfortable behind it. I did however, love the BDL Deluxe - until I got it to the range. It felt really good in hand and against the shoulder and the scope height with medium rings was perfect. The tick about it was, it was so picky about what it liked to shoot that getting off the shelf ammo that it would shoot constantly was a pain. At the time I wasn't reloading so that wasn't an option. I ended up selling it to my father. After he passed away he left it to my nephew so it's still in the family. I have no idea if he has ever shot it. I suppose now that I have been reloading again for about five years we should try building some good ammo that shoots well with it. Good luck with your new CDL. 👍

I bought a used 700BDL .243 Bull Barrelled Varmint in 1993. SN: A652XXXX. It was an absolutely beautifully finished rifle. The barrel was polished and blued so well that I could shave in it. It had a gorgeous walnut stock, ebony forend tip, and a jeweled bolt. Unfortunately, as noted in these comments, mine was one of the guns that would fire when the safety was flipped off. I sent it back to Remington and it was returned with a repair invoice that said it just needed to be cleaned. They were wrong. It misfired again and I left Remington out of the repair loop this time. I installed a Timney trigger and that solved the issue. I reloaded for that gun and no groundhog was safe within 450 yards. I sold it in 2021 to buy a Sharps 45-70.

Here are some key differences mentioned: 1. Trigger: The new Remington 700 models come with a trigger called "Timney Impact Trigger," which is factory-installed. However, the old Remington 700 does not have this trigger. 2. Manufacturing Date: The old Remington 700 being compared in the video is estimated to be from the early 1960s, around 1963-1964. The new Remington 700 CDL is a post-bankruptcy model. 3. Features: Some features present in the old Remington 700 include a tombstone safety, a cutout on the top of the receiver for a stripper clip, and drilling and tapping on the left side of the receiver for a factory peep sight or aftermarket peep sight installation. These features may not be present in the new Remington 700 models. 4. Stock Checkering: The old Remington 700 has checkering pressed into the wood, which has held up better over time compared to the new version. 5. Optics: The old Remington 700 shown in the video comes with a vintage Weaver V8 scope, which has a unique reticle design featuring three separate lines that form a box shape within the scope. This design allows for rapid eye focusing. The scope also has a different mounting system where adjustments are made on the rear of the scope. Overall, the KZbinr mentions that the fit and finish of both the old and new Remington 700 models are of high quality, but the manufacturing advancements in the newer models contribute to a better overall experience.

I only have one question. The condescending sound in your voice when stating the caliber of the older rifle. The 30.06 is a fantastic caliber. I own several and consider them to be the very best for large game hunting. What did you want it to be? Up until a few years ago, the 30.06 was the go to caliber for American big game hunters. I know this is a pretty subjective topic.

Made life easy for A lotta coyotes just wish tthey were worth anthing. The 6MM will do anything A .243 will and do it better. The .35 will do anything the 30-30 will only more of it and better. The object of hunting is to kill cleanly. Also like Reming ton 870 model shot guns .
