The 700 in the 7 rem mag made the gun industry take notice! I have on along with the other hundreds of guns over the last 60+ years of collecting! It’s good to see the new ones come with a 5R rifling and a great new trigger and safety!

I have a 700 in 7 rem mag from 1963 thst has a stainless barrel and they had a copper costing then they blued it over the copper coating! I bought mine used but it’s like almost new shape and had the stock refinished and they said stainless on the second year on but not on the first year! I am having my smith put a Trigger Tech on it and a limb saver pad so it will be a pleasure to shoot!

I bought my 700 ADL in Oct/1985 in 25.06, for $400 (was a lot of money back then) she was gently used and a tack driver, and it still is, many many whitetail has been ground checked due to my 700, my son will have it in a few years and then I’m sure my grandson will own it someday too.

@@alaskalamb Some of those mid bores were and are ideal Whitetail cartridges. 250-3000 Savage/.257 Roberts were SWEET to 250 yards for deer. .243/6mm with 90-100gr bonded jacket bullets is ideal as well.

I’ve owned a model 721 ADL in 270 since the early 60 and taken many deer with it and it’ll shoot 130 gr. boat tail bullets into 1/2 min. groups at 100 yds. Trigger is nice adjustable.

I bought the “Cheapo” model 788. Best rifle I ever had!
@edwardabrams4972
@edwardabrams4972 3 ай бұрын
The 788 is a totally different rifle it has the locking lugs in the back of the bolt not the front line the model 700. They were a totally different action and were discontinued after a couple years. I bought one in 308 when they first came out and they were super accurate but they never got popular do I traded mine off for a 700 and never looked back!

Thanks for the video, I know a bit more now about the 700 Rem, I own a 700 BDL in 270 and bought it in 1981, still works amazing and never saw the need to mess with the trigger, it does have the butt plate and never had an issue with it, have shot moose and caribou in NWT when working out there for 6 years, will probably pass it to my son as my hunting days are few and far between, tks again for all the info

I’ve got a left-handed action 1984 Model 700 BDL in 7 Mag with a dark high gloss walnut stock. I adore everything about it except its kick when I pull the trigger. Took my 30-06 700 ADL with a right handed action into a pawn shop to find out how much they’d give me for it to put towards a left handed action. Had no idea they had the 7 Mag in there at the time. I then asked how much more I’d need to give them along with my 30-06 to do a trade. They told me $75 and I quickly threw my money at them. I had only paid about $200ish for the 30-06. This was all back in 1993-1995ish. Still not cheap for me as a teenager at the time, but looking back I realize I lucked up on both rifles. I still own the 7 Mag. I baby it and will never sell it. Had to have the trigger rebuilt a few years back. I would pull the trigger, it could click but the bullet wouldn’t fire. Then, a few seconds later, it would fire. Scary. Never had the issue with the the safety causing it to fire.

One design change to the 700 I almost never see mentioned is the early addition of a bolt guide rail in the inside of the receiver and a corresponding cut in one of the bolt lugs. I had a first or second year ADL (1964, IIRC) that did not have the lug rail and the bolt had a tendency to bind while fully extracted if not held in perfect alignment with the bore while cycling the action. I understand Remington added the lug rail to correct that issue. It was a beautiful gun and shot well, but it had to go down the road due to the binding issue.

The howa 1500 actually fixed the 700 action. The howa 1500 took the Remington 700 design and fixed its short commings. That being the stupid recoil lug design thats not machine into the receiver. And the terrible extraction was alao fixed w m16 extraction. The howa is great

So dad got me a rem 700 in 270 in the early 80's or late 70's. No marking on it that tells me the model. Does it usually say adl or bdl somewhere on barrel? I also see a 4 digit engraving on the bolt.
@BTORange
@BTORange 7 ай бұрын
They did not mark ADL or BDL. The stock styles make the difference. The bolt engraving shiuld be the last few digits of the serial number.

@rjmacreadyoutpost3121 7 ай бұрын
The ADL has a blind magazine. You can’t unload it from the bottom. The BDL has a hinged bottom plate that allows you to unload quickly by letting the ammo drop out of the bottom. BDLs are more expensive and easier to modify. The actual “actions” are the same.

I had one do the same thing with one of mine. Traded it in and told the smith but don’t think he believed me either but just thought someone should know! I heard that the problem was after someone messed with the trigger and didn’t know what they were doing but I never had any other problems with any of mine.

Is there any significance to the number? Winchester Remington and Ruger have some variation of the number 7 is that just Remington and Ruger comping Winchester or is there a specific reason?
@BTORange
@BTORange 7 ай бұрын
Hadn't thought about that! The Winchester 70 was first, then the Remington 700, then the Ruger 77. I dont know that there is a specific correlation but I wouldnt put it past those marketing folks!

If the barrel is original to the gun, other than the chambering, there will be a two-character date code on the left side of the barrel just forward of the receiver.

Remington arms absolutely went to s*** after they started making the triangular barreled rifle. Who ever come up with that? Idea was an idiot. I would not own any Remington. Rifle older than a 1980, especially in the 700 have you opened and closed the bolt on a new Remington rifle? It sounds like sandpaper, a deer or elk could hear you do that half a mile away. They're jand I own nothing but Remington I go to buy a gun. I buy all pre 80 Remington guns used.
