I have taken over 56 whitetail deer and one black bear with my 760 that I had purchased new in 1972 in cal. 30-06 . Have ran mostly reloaded rounds through it an never had a problem , even at -17 egrets F. Best woods rifle you can put your hands on for the price,although I have to admit that the trigger is something you have to get used too. I used to belong to a hunting club in Pa. called the 760 that is what we all used. Game commission used to check our camp roster every year due to the fact that the camp harvested the allotted Deer in most seasons in the 70 s and 80 s. That says a lot about the Remington 760. Happy Hunting!

Hello Christina, It is an amazing and not-appreciated-enough rifle. I still have the .280, a 30-06, a .257 Roberts and maybe a couple of others. The .257 Roberts 760 is one of the most useful big game rifles ever. Almost no meaningful recoilin the .257, dramatic repeat accuracy, a fine balanced cartridge. Using that rifle I made a shot on a whitetail running flat out that I'll never forget. I actually hit the deer slightly too far back yet the lightning fast reload (which I have no recollection of) put the deer down for good. I'm sure you have similar stories. I guess I still like the 760 over the newer models - those multiple locking lugs are so slick. Thanks for sharing.

I bought a used 760 in 30 - 06 on Gunbroker, about the exact time this video was made. It shot straight from the first time I shot it. Never toughed the adjustment on the scope. The action is butter smooth. I will not tell you have much I paid for that gun, because they go for about double that now. I love it.

I was just explaining these rifles to another fella on another video, and two words i used were UNSTOPPABLE in the woods! and the SIMPLICITY to the beauty of these Rifles! Funny i clicked on to your video here, and you litterally said the same exact thing! To me these are the VERY BEST hunting Rifles out there, unless you shooting 800 yards at elk in open country or something like that. I own three of them, got my first one on my 14th B-day, a .308 760 Game Master (my FAVORITE!) and that was 16 years ago already! the same day dad bought a matching 7600 -06 that i now have, and last week i traded my M&P10 .308 for a new 7600 in 35 Whelen! a Brush Beast!!! Cant wait to be Whelen em next season here in VT! Thanks for the video and you sir have great taste in guns! have a great day!!!

My Dad hunted with a 742 in 30-06 for years. He's the type that might shoot once or twice before season to confirm zero. I doubt the rifle has 150 rounds through it though he's probably taken 40 deer with it. Twice it completely locked up after firing while hunting with factory ammo. We don't need a gunsmith often but it took a gunsmith to get it going. After the second time he retired it and bought a 7400. Our hunting party used mostly Remington pumps and semi autos and that's the only problem I remember. Great guns!

Good day and thank you for featuring such diversity in respect to the wide variety of rifles. I inherited my grandfather’s circa 50’s 760 chambered in .300 savage. I have the original manual that covers disassembly and maintenance. Owners can contact me and I could scan the document and send it by email. My example went on but one hunting adventure and has sat in storage. I have fired 40 rounds at the range and it functioned well and was accurate. They are enjoyable to operate. Sir, just to let you know I missed-out on the Mohawk rifle as it was sold. Too bad! I did purchase a nice Marlin lever. I have room for one more in my safe and I’m thinking that a K-31 should be there. To all the viewers of this channel have a great day.

I also own a 760 Gamemaster and it is great ! Faster follow up shot than a lever action and pumping the forend is a more natural motion and comes without thinking. These rifles can be bought for a really low price considering its polished blued steel, walnut stocks, American made and is suberbly accurate.

Thanks for the pointer on the 742. I may have to pick one up if I see a good deal. I own a 760. Not sure if mine is one in a million but it is by far the most accurate rifle I've ever owned. I have bolt action rifles that shoot under an inch and one that shoots under .5 inch at 100 yards. My 760 in 270 caliber groups with all bullet holes touching at 100 yards. The best group was a slightly enlarged single hole. Bought it used l a couple winters ago and I could hardly believe my first group. Thought it was a fluke but was able to repeat the grouping of all holes touching with 3 different 130 grain factory loads. From the bench or in the field with a bi-pod, I rest it on the metal receiver just ahead of the magazine, rather than the forend like most people do. Maybe this is the trick to great accuracy with this gun. The barrel is free floating.

@@lol-ld3jh The factory loads I used were Remington Core Lokt, Winchester Powermax Bonded, and Federal Fusion. All 130 grain. They were all accurate, but the Federal Fusion had the best group with one slightly enlarged hole. But any difference in accuracy between the 3 was more likely me. I really like the Winchester Powermax bonded for performance on deer and bear I have shot. Have a hard time finding it anymore. I hope they didn't discontinue it. I know my accuracy claims may sound unbelievable, I could hardly believe the results myself. I took pictures of the targets for what it's worth.

I took a 900 lb elk at 440 yards in 2004 when I was hunting with my brother in law in Colorado near the airforce academy where he was an intructor. I stretched the practcal accuracy of a 30-06 pump especially since I was using regular 180 grain core lokt 30-06 on a large moose and a non premium bullet. I had a one shot stop. Howeveer this was because I snapped the spine with my bullet which means 2 inches higher and i would have missed.

I recently inherited a 760 game master 30-06 it was my dad's. He doesn't hunt anymore. I used it when I was teenager for my first season. He had an old 4x scope on it. The scope was an old Weaver if I remember correctly with the weaver mount. I am going to re-blue it. It does need new scope bases and rings. I purchased a Trijicon Accupoint 1-6x24 along with a limb saver recoil pad.

I didnt even ever had the idea to put an optics on it, just the normal iron sight is just so amazingly good and it's a very accurate rifle, you don't need a scope at all even for long distance shooting. Also you can kill way bigger game than deers with this rifle... I've been to Canada a few times and hunted i've hunted 2 mooses and a black bear with this rifle.... Plus it have pretty much no kick no recoils, you can shoot very fast if you want to.

I used to think that a lever action was the best type of repeater, until I realized that the lever scrapes up your knuckles terribly. A bolt gun makes you remove your shooting from the grip in order to work the action, so you then have to reposition it on the trigger. But that's not so bad. Autos can jam, especially if you use handloads that are out of the normal range of the factory loads. So that leaves the Remington pump (unless I've forgotten another common type of repeater). A few decades ago a guy I knew showed me his Remington pump. I had never seen one before. I thought the gun was "un-sexy" and odd. So, I never gave it a second thought, and I never considered buying one. Now that I'm a little older, I think that a pump rifle is the best way to go, at least for hunting in the woods. I'll keep a lookout for one in a chambering that suits my needs.

The US does more than any other country so far. The other countries offer things and circumstances in exchange for the loss of freedom. @@UnitedStatesOfGuns Very well said sir, I'm a left handed shooter that's why my father bought me the 760 game master when I was 13, but growing up with it, honestly I feel even if I was a right handed shooter I would shoot a Remington pump action, Especially after having bought 1st one in my hand and hunting with it, say nothing about successful hunting, as a young man. There have been a few replies to me stating they will never be as good as bolt actions, yada yada yada! That is all BS! To me, It is all the shooter, And any one of my guns has always done what I want them to. There is honestly no other guns, That Carrie, level out, or are as ergonomically comfortable, as these hunting rifles in my own opinion, And I would never change any of my pumps for any tire iron bolt action Rifles ever, As I said I believe they're just as accurate as any other rifle, so I would much rather prefer not manipulating my shooting grip whatsoever! And having Faster target acquisition, and follow up shots, just all the way around better Rifles in my opinion! And yes I am bias because I am an American so I think America is the best place in the world! As I'm sure many other people around the world due to, but unfortunately the Democratic Party and the extreme leftist liberals are trying to take over currently and everything is at stake right now! It is now more important than ever, that we keep our great President in the White House! But if he did honestly lose, ( and I mean honestly), Then he will move on, and we absolutely need to keep the senate seats in Georgia, or our Freedoms, and liberties, are absolutely at risk! And "We The People" that are conservative Americans, And cherish and value our American ways of life, will absolutely Never stand for it! I'm not sure where you're from, but please do not believe any main stream media news, that tells you America is inherently badd! Because it is not it is the greatest place in the world, it is the inner cities and the people's way of life in those cities that make the rest of it look badd, But unfortunately people do not dig any deeper than that if they did they would see, These cities with humongous crime rates, are mostly dominated by these democratic, or leftist liberal policies, and have been for the past decade! 🇺🇸💪🏻

I received a Remington 760 Gamemaster with a leather sling from a friend and received it in a condition that requires heavy cleaning, but find myself unable to take apart the gun, as many tutorials online for this rifle start with disassembly from the screw in front of the pump. With the model I have, and with the model in the video, the front strap screw blocks the screw mentioned to begin the disassembly. Please let me know if you have any experience with disassembling the 760, and how to disassemble it and remove the front rifle strap screw.

Let me make an correction on this comment of mine here. Thinking of it now, think Remington really went down the tubes since the early 1990''s, ever since I bought their Remington model 870 Express, with the rifle barrel and the bird barrel. Would say that is the worse quality of a shotgun that I own. Did not know it at the time but I was better off on going with the Mossberg pump. I would buy any old Remington. (except of exception of their Remington model 700's). And since Remington took over Marlin and H&R they also dragged these great gun companies thru the mud. So from this I would never buy a brand new or should say any Remington made after the 1980's or the 1990's again.

Accurate and the slide action on the pump is butter!!! No chatter on mine either! GREAT GUN!!! oh and one in 30/06 could use a soft buttpad! lol i will be getting one! But once again great guns! I love my pump 760!!!:>)

@@UnitedStatesOfGuns cant wait to get it hog hunting. Selling my home in Jersey and going to buy some property a bit further south ,but has to be a coastal state and 2A friendly.Once i sell my home ill be serious about purchasing a few acre's or more?I want it to be a bit out of the way with a long dirt road ,driveway and have some kind of good water source on it.Would like some flat land as well as hilly or even Mts on it .But will have to see what i make on my house to decide on the size of the property i want to buy.I hear a lot of cheap land in West Virginia? Really its more about a safe place for my family ,if Biden finds a way into the White House? If a Biden/Harris Admin do walk into it there will be serious problems here in our country and i must get my family to a safe place while i join others to fix things! The Minority (the left) must not be allowed to rule the masses! I will do all i can to ensure my family is free for generations to come! Or death!!!%

My 742 would jam all the time, the bolt will get stuck in the receiver on recoil. the top part of the receiver under where the scope mounted looked like the whoops at a super cross track. It was in 30-06

Nice rifle! Collectors look for the 760s that have no checkering and grooves in the forend and an aluminum bolt cover. If yours is like this then you have a very desirable 760. On the other hand, if you just want a better looking rifle you can buy any number of stocks - from synthetic, to more recent cut checkering models with glossy finishes to custom. Beautiful 760! I've been looking for some good videos of it chambered in .308! I inherited mine from my grandfather and it's in 308 and was made in March of '72. I learned recently that it was the only pump action rifle ever made in this caliber or just only pump action rifle in general besides some 22s? I have a video I'll share in a comment below of me shooting it if you're interested in watching it. I'm trying to get more into uploading some videos of my collection. Safe shooting always and have a good day!

@@UnitedStatesOfGuns I shared above! I've been looking to try and get a scope for mine but I'm having a hard time figuring out what I have to get for mounting and a scope and how it's done. I'm trying to get as good as I can with it for this year so I can get something big with it! Either that or my Model 94 in 32 Winchester Special! Also a video of that on my shorts list. We also have a muzzleloader season here in WA, I have a couple of those but haven't had the chance to get out with anyone that can help teach me how to use them properly.

I have a early production (1952) 760 in 30-06 that my father used in the Canadian arctic with good success. Destroys the myth that only bolt actions are suitable for extreme cold. I never liked shooting it until I replaced the skinny, crooked original stock with a Bell & Carlson synthetic butt and fore end. Always accurate (three shots into .75" @ 100 yds.), now it is much more pleasant to shoot. There's also a myth that the 760's interrupted lugs allow the action to 'blow open' when it's shot. Not so, but the myth persists, even though Jim Carmichael explained thirty years ago in his book (Book of the Rifle), what was really happening.

It isn't the most straight forward. May be best to pop out the trigger assembly, magazine and take off the forend and use a spray cleaner over some kind of container. I can usually get all dirt/residue out with out taking apart the pump etc... The tube hanger for the pump can be a bear to loosen and the aluminum or plastic bolt cover plate can be a nuisance to get back in place. Anyway, up to you but I find that complete disassembly is not needed even if the gun has been wet or dropped in mud. Up to you though.

Ha! Obviously you won't be able to hit anything with an old pump action rifle with open sights! Do you realize you are causing enormous trauma to all the internet hunting experts who need the latest synthetic stocked rifle with a Hubble telescope on top to hunt deer!! They wouldn't even have the luxury to scoff at you for being a naive beginner or too poor to afford a decent gun; not many have the collection of fine firearms that you have!! Levity aside; it is a good reminder that fairly basic rifles can do the job just as well as ballistic reticle scoped wonderguns..BTW, I, being an international, didn't even know there were pump action rifles! First time saw one. So learnt something new from this video. Did any one design a pump action rifle outside the U.S?
@UnitedStatesOfGuns
@UnitedStatesOfGuns 7 жыл бұрын
Hi my friend! You made a room full of people laugh over here : ) That is so funny! As for pumps - I guess there was a British design going way back but mostly the pump rifle and shotgun are from The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. I find pumps to be the most natural, logical, efficient and fastest repeating mechanism. More than one reader told me that Australia grouped pumps with semi's and banned them all. If there is a weakness it is in primary extraction - the pump lacks the camming action of a turn bolt; but not a straight pull bolt - which is more a bolt handle operated pump. Thanks for writing.
