Very informative video. Thanks for sharing the videos on the 760 . I have one (an early 60's model .270) that belonged to my Dad. I'm going to take it apart, clean it up, and refinish the stock. Your videos have given me the much needed, valuable help to be able to do the job. Thanks Brother & God bless !!!

I don’t have a trigger breakdown video. I might need to do one since that trigger group covers the 760, 7600, 1100, 11-87 and a few others.

When cleaning do you take apart the trigger assembly? My mag release is pretty stiff

I typically don’t take the trigger assembly apart. I spray some Rem-Oil down in there, scrub with a toothbrush, blow out with compressed air and then apply oil as needed.

Sorry, but this comment was being held in limbo by KZbin. There shouldn’t be any concern over the spring length, the production ran for 30+ years and there were design changes.

My bolt has one pin that easily falls out during reassembly. I was able to use a bit of gun oil on the pin to hold it in place just long enough to get it reassembled. The receiver will keep the pins retained once assembled.

I am having a problem with my 760 gamemaster rifle, which is causing slam fire while closing the action pump, the firing pin is loose, as shown in the video, I can not find what the problem is, I am wondering if you may have a recommendation or tip to look for..
@ncshootist5 жыл бұрын
It could be the disconnector isn’t seated properly. Check the last post on this forum www.okshooters.com/threads/remington-pump-760-accidental-discharge-recurrent-design-problem.154363/ Also check out my other video showing reassembly and let me know if this fixes it.

look for a rim obstruction or something pushing bullets a fraction of am to the firing pin. I had the reverse happen to me and it would not fire, thought it was ammo......oil had gummed the works...old timer said use grease only.....now I do.

When cleaning my 760, do I need to break down the bolt in order to properly clean it or can I leave it assembled and sufficiently clean it?

You don’t need to take it apart every time you clean your rifle, but maybe once a year take it apart and give it a good cleaning.

I have an older 760 w/o the firing pin spring. I noticed my firing pin leaves a very slight mark in the primer when I cycle a shell. Do you have any advice on what I might need to do to eliminate that from happening?
@ncshootist5 жыл бұрын
Let me make sure I’m understanding your question. You’re saying when you chamber a round, the firing pin lightly strikes the primer before you pull the trigger?
@dhudson58145 жыл бұрын
@@ncshootist - yes there's a small mark in the center of the primer; not really indented but enough to see it is touching the primer. I just downloaded a manual and I see there is a 'bolt carrier spring' missing. I have a feeling that is my problem as I am assuming that spring keeps the pin from sliding forward when the chamber is closed. I know you said in your video that the earlier models don't have the spring but I'm fairly certain if I had a spring in mine it would solve the problem. Thoughts?
@ncshootist5 жыл бұрын
I would take the bolt apart and use steel wool on the firing pin to clean it up. After cleaning, give it a light coat of oil. Also check the inside of the firing pin channel to make sure there’s no gunk down in the bolt. If it’s still protruding after cleaning take it to a gunsmith and have him look at it.

@@dhudson5814 I have a model from Apr 1959 that does the same thing. Has for all the years I've owned it. A friend has a 1960 model that also does it. The spring you refer to puts tension between the bolt and bolt carrier and neither of our rifles came with one, like yours. It does not have any effect on the firing pin, which is free floating. The inertia created by closing the bolt is what makes the firing pin impact the primer slightly. Seems unsafe but as far as I know, that's just how they are. I'm always careful to point the rifle in a safe direction when I chamber a round, although I've fired nearly a thousand rounds over the years (yes, I keep track) and have not had an accidental discharge yet.

@@dancingchicken8171 I recently purchased a Feb1954 model 760 in .270 at a gun show near houston. Mine has the diamond checkering on the forearm. My problem is that when firing a round, the firing pin barely strikes the primer and I get a misfire. Couple days ago I received a new hammer spring and installed it. Now I get a misfire about once out of every 3-4 shots. I had already taken the bolt completely apart and cleaned thoroughly prior to installing the new hammer spring (no spring in the carrier as described by NCShootist). Any suggestions? I really like the old 760 and would like to keep it. Returning it to the dealer is not a problem but being old school, I love the look of this fire old rifle.
@jaredlewis73154 жыл бұрын
I own a 760 from 1972, it doesn’t have the firing pin spring. I believe the firing pin itself is damaged. Does the newer firing pin with spring work in the older bolt assembly or would I have to buy the newer bolt assembly and firing pin. Cannot find the old firing pin anywhere online for purchase.

What year and caliber is your 760? I have a Apr 1959 model and am looking for a new bolt. All I've been able to find is the model you show which is a bit different than mine. I wonder if your bolt and carrier would work as a unit in my rifle. Schematic I found does not differentiate between the differences. Seems to assume all 760 bolts and carriers will work in all 760s.
@ncshootist4 жыл бұрын
Mine is either 1967 or 1968 and is chambered in .30-06. If I remember right, there is an early and a late bolt variation but I’m not sure what years apply to each variation. I’m not even sure if you can find bolts for them anymore.

The 7600 and the 7400 were both introduced in 1981 and share the same bolt design. The 760 was introduced almost 30 years earlier and the bolt has 14 locking lugs - the bolt was redesigned with the new models.
