Military Arms Channel I dont know if im being too critical but im not sure about remington anymore. All the problems with this handgun just seem like really simple design flaws that a company like Remington should have no problems with such as the slide hanging up so often. Along with the recall out on 700s because apparently theres a problem with the triggers or firing ping that is causing accidental discharges? Just doesnt seem right.

Some reviewers rely on manufacturer supplied T&E guns and others value their relationships with the manufacturers more than the value the truth. Either way, I buy most of the guns you see on this channel and should I accept a T&E gun, I will be honest (as this video demonstrates). If that means I don't get T&E guns in the future, so be it. I don't need to be the first guy in front of the camera with a new product. I would rather be late to the party so I can actually test the gun anyway, and that takes time.

I'm already skeptical when someone tells me they have a T&E product for review from a manufacturer. I work at a factory. When we send out products to be reviewed they get a little extra quality control before being sent to whoever.

WOW! I found this video 100% because I had just read a review of this gun in TWO issues of Combat Handguns and both absolutely extolled the gun and it's features. So I do a KZbin search cuz I'm immediately wanting to go out and buy one. And yup...I found all the videos that say this POS fires out of battery! This is why I subscribe to your channel, Sir and others. I can count on one hand the number of articles I had read where magazine reviews have said ANYTHING bad about the weapons they review. And then you go to honest, well informed folks who will tell us the truth. I have almost completely stopped buying gun magazines because of that. I spoke to a local gun shop about the R51 and he said he will refuse to carry the gun till Remington irons out the bugs. Well done, Sir. I LOVE your channel!

Thank you. I will always give an honest opinion. Most of the big gun rags are bought and paid for by the manufacturers. As for us "little guys", we're independent and not beholden to any of the big manufacturers. Well, most of us aren't anyway. A few are a bit too close... but I digress. The fact is, if something doesn't work or is dangerous (as I believe the R51 is), I will not candy coat my opinion. Thanks for watching.

This is the first gun review where I began to fear you would lose fingers before it was over. I am just glad you finished intact. Reliable is the most important safety consideration on a carry gun and this simply should not have been released until it was ready. It is only an apprentice and I would not have it on a range if I cannot trust it. A most effective review. No wonder they are taking it back and sitting on it and may put out a new model. A company's reputation can be easily ruined putting something out like this and if anyone had been hurt it would have hurt everyone in the gun industry.

The Remington Model 51 was introduced long before either the Walther PP or PPK series of fixed barrel pistols. Pedersen's design was unique and like it or not, preceeded the Walther pistols. In fact, Remington had discontinued production of its Model 51 in 1927. Walther introduced their series beginning around 1929 with the familiar PP or Police Pistol, followed in the very early 1930's with the smaller PPK.

Really appreciate the honest review! It would be one thing if it was just having some initial feeding issues but the most ridiculous aspect about the R51 is the QC/QA issues. You have to wonder what type of un-meticulous, slipshod team put this design together because apparently the finished product distressed none of them. A single, anally retentive person in the think tank for example could averted the massive, lateral trigger play and its consumer airsoft' characteristics. Perhaps making budget is good enough at Remington?

Daniel J. Tanner I actually gave my wife my old Hi-Point 45 a few months ago after I bought a Glock 22. The Hi-Point has over 10000 rounds through it, most of which were hot handloads, which it loved, and the thing still runs beautifully! Sure, we need to replace the magazines, as they are starting to crack, but so far, that is the only weak point!

I actually don't mind the looks of a Hi-Point..made in America, super reasonable price, unbelievably great warranty for the original buyer and pisses the Gun Snobs off something fierce. Everyone that's into guns should have a Hi-Point or two in their arsenal. But some people just get so ass-hurt over these guns. I would like to see Hi-Point come out with some new products though..perhaps a higher end pistol line..say for about double what they cost now. But I guess some folks would bash them as well. So much for Buying American made I guess...

Remington is also destroying the Bushmaster name. Remington acquired the "Bushmaster" name and the quality of their AR's have gone WAYYYYYYYY downhill. Thank god the old Bushmaster is back in business...its called Windham Weaponry. The old owner of Bushmaster rehired his old employees after Remington shut down the factory and moved it no NY. Windham Weaponry is making AR's the way the old Bushmasters were made... Rock solid and accurate! Ive been dying to by a new ARC but I refuse to by a Remington made one. I guess I will have to try and find a used ACR made in Windham ME.

neutered10mm look at the AR15 history. It was rushed into service, before it was ready, in 1965 and it had some costly bugs that harmed its reputation. But a few years later, with the A1 variant, the bugs were worked out and a pretty damn good rifle resulted. Fast forward today, we are still using the same rifle (updated for all the latest optics and gadgets of course).

It's a shame that the R51 is a disappointment as opposed to a success. When they introduced this at Shot Show, it looked like a pretty cool 9mm pocket option. It definitely looks like it's got some potential as a self-defense pistol, but as you've shown, it looks like they're still having "prototype" issues with it. Thanx for this video! Very professionally done review. I commend your self-control when dealing with and talking about the problems with this pistol. I was very excited when news of this pistol came out in January. I was pleased that it was going to be a 9mm single action. Other features seemed appealing also. I remember sending my son a text saying, "I think I'm in love". Then told him the details of the gun and it's features. Welp, honeymoon's over. This gun would have to have it's problems corrected, and have 5 to 10 years of proven reliability behind it before I'd even _consider_ buying one. Thanks to you and others for blowing the whistle on this lemon. You have potentially prevented loss of life or limb for a lot of folks.

MAC, I have been watching your show for 2-3 years now, and I really appreciate your reviews. I was entertaining the idea of buying a CC-purposed pistol, and (between your two reviews and those of others) I am going to avoid this pistol. I am used to the reliability of a USP 9 (full-size), so dealing with this would have been very upsetting - especially after being $400+ lighter. Remington had a chance to show you their best-working pistol (the T&E), and the performance was still shoddy. Thanks for the reviews, and I look forward to seeing more.

Like your reviews. Honest and straight to the point. Who the heck is in charge of quality control at remington the past decade or so? Every newer remington firearm I've recently owned or handled just doesn't seem as "quality" as they used to be. For comparison, a lifelong friend and I recently decided to invest in long range varmint guns. He bought a model 700 chambered in 22-250, I bought a Ruger M77 chambered in .204 ruger. His rifle cost $700, mine $680. The quality is night and day between the two. There are tooling marks all over the inside or the remington action, the lettering on the barrel, whether it's machined or stamped isn't even level, or all at the same depth. The barrel isn't crowned, and it's advertised as a long range varmint/target rifle. The bolt is gritty in cycling, and the trigger is adequate, and the stock? Junk, at best. I love my 870, 11-87, and 760 gamemaster, never had any problems with any of them. At a local gun shop sponsored automatic weapons shoot, they had a R-51 on display, but not available to shoot. The words from the gun shop owner himself"honestly I don't think the gun is safe to fire." What the heck remington?

If I remember correctly it wasn't shown to the public at range day or wasn't allowed to be fired by anyone other than Remington reps. Factor that with the first initial reviews here on youtube were done with people from Remington present in the videos told me something was up with this thing. Is it just me, or has a lot of Remington products in the past several years suffered a great deal from lack of quality. I love my Remington 700, however some people are reporting problems with the newer ones. That is kind of scary, since the Remington 700 is supposed to be a very solid gun. Remington needs to put quality back in their firearms and quit messing around before somebody gets hurt.

I watched TacticalExistence series on this gun also. I'm not interested in the gun in the least bit but am concerned about why this gun ever got to market. Remington at one time made some of the best guns out there and in the early part of the last century was able to put out quality pieces for our troops plus make all the sportsman back home drool over their guns. I really hope this is not the future of once a great American gun manufacturer. I look forward to you sharing any more on how Remington solves this issue and what they have to say about your review.

Nice to see another Michigander on here, that's where I'm originally from. They have had my R51 for about two weeks now. I haven't heard a word from them yet. I'd say they are not happy with either of our reviews on the R51. They have no one to blame but themselves. I'll post up a video as soon as I hear something form Remington or get my gun back.

I cannot believe that after contacting you and asking you to review another R51 of their choosing, they still sent you a flawed gun. It seems to me that the problem is with the design. Trying to reduce the pull weight on the slide will cause all sorts of problems specially since they seem to have used a spring too weak for the job that can't even get the slide back into battery so repeatedly. I know Remington will fix these things but their quality control on this gun is so far off its not acceptable for such a huge company. It seem to me they are using reviews as that test bed to fine tune the gun which is absurd cause a catastrophic failure will cost them more if it happens to MAC than if it happens to one of their own employees.

I am glad you noticed that failure to eject. I have seen so many people who have no idea they had a malfunction. Shooting a firearm can be relatively easy. But, people who have no clue they had a malfunction scare me. You noticed immediately there was a recoil difference and that there was no ejection. You would be surprised how many people would miss that. I have taken my kids shooting before and they don't notice the difference in recoil on the last round of a AR15. It worries me that they aren't paying close enough attention to what they are doing. Another prime example is people who have AR15s blow up on them in videos. They obviously had a pop and no kick. Instead of trying to do a proper malfunction check they just try to slam another round in behind the lodged bullet. If that guns firing pin hit another round with that case stuck in there it would of blow apart in your fingers. It really pisses me off. That crap with Remington rifles killing people because of design flaws. Or Sig putting out guns that fire when dropped or break apart with normal use. That stuff should of been seen in testing.

I just bought a Rem 700 in .308 and was looking at this gun for concealed carry. I thought by now they would have worked out the issues, but I guess not. I'm glad I decided to go ahead and get my Sig P290RS for carry and leave the R51 alone. My P290RS has not had a single problem at all and has fed and shot everything that I have tried to run through it and at ~15 yards is a one hole shooter, which is no easy task from a less than 3" barrel. That being said I have not had a single functional issue with my Rem 700 SPS .308. The only slight problem I had was a very strong magazine spring that was causing scratches on my cases, but I changed out the magazine spring and the problem was fixed ($8 fix). However, my .308 is about to undergo a lot of custom work anyway and I bought the cheap SPS with the intention of basically only keeping it for the action. But after reading plenty of reviews and watching videos here I was expecting more problems out of the SPS model, but maybe I just got lucky. I did buy mine after the recall and it came with the fixed trigger so it did not have to be sent back btw.

Thanks to the MAC the R51 production was probably halted until Remington can make a reliable weapon. I'm not saying that the MAC was solely responsible, but it could have been. To think of all of the money spent on R and D, shot down by a video. In my opinion MAC has save countless people money, time and aggravation. I just wanted to thank you for doing what you do. Too bad. This looked like an interesting new gun from Remington, but sounds like it turned out to be a flop. It seems overly complicated and poorly executed. The disassembly alone would scare me away from buying this gun. I don't know of any other currently produced handgun that is more complicated to disassemble. Combine that with all of the issues the gun has in firing and that makes it a completely terrible choice. Thanks for the review/warning Tim.

excellent video, sir. I know what NOT to get my wife, who has nerve damage in her hands, along with strength, and mild mobility issues...the r-51. I think that the pederson design was good for .32 acp, in its day. but the sun has set on that design, long, long ago, and is not up to the task of firing modern 9mm ammo. it would also seem that Remington was in a hurry to launch the "new" pistol. the design flaws, as well as the rush to production on this pistol are its downfalls. you know it has to say something, when the Remington r-51 makes a jimenez arms, or lorcin pistol look good by comparison. again, thanks for taking the time to make this video, and as always: semper fi, carry on!!
