Remington RM380 pistol review

I wanted to talk to you about my new pistol, the Remington RM380.

This was my first gun. It is fantastic. Shoots everything, never fails with about 850 rounds through it. It is less snappy and more comfortable to shoot than several other micro 380s I tried before. I love this gun. When I can't carry my SIG P365XL because of clothing attire I can carry this gun, packed with Underwood Xtreme Defense rounds, will do as much damage as a 9mm. I highly recommend this gun. I did get a second magazine that has the pinky extension. For me, the flat based mag reduces control without my pinky holding the grip. I also like the firm trigger and DAO as a form of safety. The trigger won't get pulled unless you want it pulled, due to length of pull and weight.

My 77 year old dad caries this gun. It's very easy to rack the slide. The trigger is long, but easy to pull and very predictable. The recoil is snappy, but not like a little Seecamp 380 or any of the little micro polly 380 pistols like the LCP, P3AT, or CW380. It is a very well made piece for the price.

Just got done repairing this gun for a friend. Trigger bar kept slipping off of the hammer boss. The hammer spring is way too heavy and can be lightened thanks to Galloway precision spring kit for $18 shipped. Takes factory trigger pull down from 9 lbs to around 7. Good little pistol and great review.

Thank you, I have shared your video with a couple people I know who complain the recoil of the RM380 is too uncomfortable for them, mind you they are full grown men weighing at least 180lbs and here you are shooting this gun with ease and well. Some people just need to toughen up and stop limp wristing or work out more.

Been looking for a budget 380 and this model has the weight and feel to it, that I really like. The other firearms with an reasonable price were either too light or the slide and the recoil was not as smooth as the Remington. On the high end the Sig and Kimber were great. Not to many reviews of this baby and a lot of complaints from past firearms they made,so I'm just gonna wait for more feed back before I buy this pocket pistol .

Nice shooting,i picked one of these up for the hell of it ,it ran like a champ first time out put like 300 rounds thru it including underwood xtp and 100 grain flat nose hard cast very accurate for a little pistol and low recoil.

Thanks for the review Gabby.. The RM380 might be a good choice for senior citizens who don't have a lot of strength in their hands. My wife can't fire a KelTec P11, with it's 15+ pound trigger pull.. Or even think about working the slide..

Nice review. Thanks. I just bought one of these today and I've swapped my Bersa 380 cc for the RM380 as my EDC. Great ergo, easy to strip and clean, reasonably accurate for a gun its size. My only concern is reliability. It's a fairly new gun so we'll have to wait and see whether it stands the test of time. But as of today, I'm betting my life on it.

I recommend you check out a Bersa Plus 380 and see how you like it. It also has a key that locks the trigger, great if one has children. It is a double action than single action gun.

This video helps a lot because men tend to buy guns women may not like to shoot. It helps to have a woman explain what she likes about a gun before adding to a collection. This way there will be something in our collections for the women in our lives , if they ever feel unsafe or just want more protection.

Seems very similar to SiG P290RS. However, SiG includes replaceable sights (has a factory night sights version), as well as comes with a +2 extended magazine. May cost a bit more though.

Thanks for this video. I'm very interested in getting this gun. There are not many new videos on this gun. You covered a lot of points. I would tell you to check out Underwood 380(+P) Defender or penetrator ammo. It makes a 380 a 9mm.

Great review. I have a Taurus TCP 380 which is similar to this gun, but I had to send it back to Taurus because of a a whole bunch of issues with it. It took them 3 months to send it back to me! It's better now, but I would stay away from Taurus if you asked me.

Great video! My wife is not an experienced shooter but she is wanting to get a gun for concealed carry. She told me she would practice at the range with me and get training as well. Do you recommend the rm 380 for a beginner? She likes this gun a lot and has looked at many pistols. She is a small woman with small hands.

Have you ever used Lehigh Defense Extreme Penetrator ammunition in this pistol? Curious to find out if there are any feeding issues with the odd shape (solid copper with a cross shaped tip) of this particular ammunition. Also, thanks for posting this review!

That 380 in hollow points is notorious for under penetration. You might want to look into getting a 38 S&W special in a J frame revolver....or just use ball ammunition in 380

Just curious Gabby. Remington took the model and improved it. Why did they take the existing caliber of 9mm and make it a .380? Also how were they able to cut the cost down so much?

+The Shooter's Mindset Well, the original plan was to have pistols in popular calibers and sizes .45ACP - Full size, 9mm - Compact, .380ACP - Pocket size pistol. Everything that is made by order or in small quantities is expensive... That is what happened with Rohrbaugh firearms. Remington has the structure to mass produce and therefore prices can be reduced significantly. I hope this answers your questions ;)

+The Shooter's Mindset Remington bought out Rohrbaugh, who made boutique pistols, a R 380 and a R9. They improved the R380 recoil spring and added the beavertail and slide release. Rohrbaugh sold the pistols for $1000 and had a faithful following. I think if the RM-380 is successful, we'll see the RM 9.

I would go with a 380 my gf has a glock 42 mild recoil and the grip is a little bigger then this one. But the flocks slide is a bitch at first for my gf so we left the slide open for a week and after a few hundred round it's easier to rack it.

My frigging slide pin falls out if you rack the slide sideways! Garbage! Just bought one, not even fired yet and my frigging slide pin falls out way too easy if you rack the slide left side down! Garbage design or garbage quality, you decide! They should have developed a wire spring retention system for this pin like on the Ruger LCP II. The gun even came with additional page of instructions in the box stating that this is "suppose to happen." That the pin is suppose to fall out if you rack the slide sideways with the left side facing down. Frankly, I think this addition page insert by Remington is bullsh*t! Any pin should be held in place by more than just gravity! If I knew parts were going to fall off depending on how I held the gun when racking the slide, then I'd would never have bought this POS. Frankly Taurus is looking a lot better than Remington these days!

This happened to me when I was looking at one st my local gun store. I racked the slide and the pin came out enough to lock the slide open. We had to push the pin in to get it to go back into battery. Doubt this would happen when shooting but definitely a bad design. I've heard to grease it and it will stay in place but doesn't seem like a great fix. ps . I was not trying to get this to happen even though I know it could be a problem I just racked the slide slowly while I was talking to another customer and it locked up

I've had mine almost a year and have fired 800 rounds through it. I have never, ever had an issue with the pin. In order for the pin to fall out you have to have the gun lying on it's side (with the larger hole), move the slide back and stop in the magical spot. The only time I do this is to remove the pin to take the gun down for cleaning. There is no other time you are going to move the slide back a little and stop, and with the gun on it's side. Never a problem with the pin or the gun, and it has fired everything I put through it. The pin cannot "jump" through a moving hole. The fit is too fine.

Sorry Gabby....It is a very good review... since last year gun sales have virtually disappeared....ammo and reloading supplies are being scalped. AND Remington declared bankruptcy and went out of business...Good news...reopened under new management. Wonder if this great gun will continue to be available. It was a big hit.
