Remington's used 500d Cordura Nylon, the originals were 400-420d Nylon Pack Cloth, which can still be found in OD. Its a shame they went through the trouble of copying the buckles but went with the Cordura instead of OD Pack Cloth.

Nice review Bruce. I recently bought one of these Remingtons and whilst there are a few differences between this and an original I really like it. Hopeing to use mine on my LRRP impression this year. Also worn it a bit and its really comfy. Thanks for the review or else I probably wouldn't have bought one.

I haven't ever seen this ruck before and still can't find anything on Ebay or such. Looks pretty neat, a transitional ruck before the LC1 and Canadian C1/C2 from the looks of it.
@saigonfrontiers86173 жыл бұрын
Well it would be an American tropical rucksack from the 1960s-70s which was preceded by the lc1 rucks
@hunterphfr10 ай бұрын
Canadian C1-C2 is also called the 64 pattern, P64, jump ruck, airborne ruck or commando ruck. It was originally issued in 64/65. Think Forest Gump with a big ass valise on top. It predates the Tropical or Alice variants of the American army. It uses the same frame as the 64, 65, and 68US Lightweight Ruck. Without the middle back strap clips. Canadian version used a rubberized canvas bag to increase waterproofing instead of nylon. It’s still a highly modified, highly sought after in service piece of kit. Especially among airborne and light infantry soldiers.

I've looked at that Remington's Tropical Ruck for a good while now. That sucks with the grommets coming out, but I guess they make up for it with more durable cordura material and metal snaps though...the two originals I have one is that Lime Green color nylon, it's 68 dated, and my 69 dated is a little more OD Green, so I guess there were variations from different manufacturers....I am impressed that Remington's did maintain the "tunnels" behind the outer three pockets. I'm glad you did this review Bruce, now you need a Lightweight Ruck frame to "jury rig" attach it to, to be authentic, very few pics of GIs wearing it with just the X-frame. An obscure/forgotten piece of Vietnam War Army gear, and a stepping stone to the Medium ALICE ruck.

Want one, but have searched eBay, Amazon and google with no luck. Are these still out there to be had?
Cool touch with the XM-28 gas mask pouch on your ruck...those were almost universal by about 1970...I'm not sure if they kept the actual gas mask that came with it, or ditched it and simply used the pouch as a good water proof carrier for stuff...hey, good place for yer "dew" man!! :) :)

How do you wear your bandolier? I have never seen it worn like that, is it just safety-pinned to the middle pocket cover? Genius solution anyway, I have struggled to find a good way to carry mine.
@brucecamparmament37284 жыл бұрын
Yes its just safety pinned to the front of the shirt. The straps can be cut and tied in the back, or can be worked around the arms in a way that its worn somewhat like a "bra" if you are small enough. i.pinimg.com/originals/91/e5/69/91e5697424cd5d0402ea90f02612cd60.jpg

You're a little off on the going rate for originals. $250-450 is the range depending on who you go to. $150-200 is if you're getting a steal of a deal. I don't think condition is taken into account with these things being so desirable. Still easier to find than Lightweight Rucksack bags though. I just got mine for $250 in real good shape with the instruction sheet intact from a buddy and that's the fair going rate right now. People can chime in and rub their deals in but as far as 2019 this is accurate.
