Reminiscing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I have only ever played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. So, a few months ago I decided to go back and play Oblivion for the first time using backwards compatibility on the Xbox Series X. This video covers my experience playing the game for the first time on that console and why I never got into the series before Skyrim had released. I hope you enjoy!

its really interesting to see a new experience with the game, and also so diffent the one i had, how you did not have problems with the level system and difficulty? have you done efficient levelling? because it was a must do think i had to do, i was stuck with the overpowered enemies and i was super underpowered

I didn't really have much trouble with the combat. Perhaps it's simply the way I played the game? As I mentioned in this review, part of how I like to play RPGs is doing all the side content first, then the story last. So as soon as I got to the Sky Castle area, I set off and did the faction quests one by one. Then continued the story from that point after 30+hrs of side content. Besides the trolls and some other beasts, I didn't have too much of an issue.

Good video! Well thought out and delivered. I never did finish this game, but it is very good and memorable. Bethesda was a smaller developer at the time and what they managed was very impressive. I'm more nostalgic for Oblivion than I am for Skyrim, but I think that Skyrim is a better game in terms of gameplay, atmosphere and technology. Bethesda tend to build on what they've done before and that shows in Skyrim. There's a rumor going around about a remaster, I believe. Since it's already enhanced, they'd have to go next level with it, redoing the graphics and animation, adding various QOL features. Otherwise, why not just play the original game enhanced on Series X? At least in my mind, it's hard to imagine it happening as it would be a big undertaking. We'll see if it ever materializes.

Good to hear from you Astral! Glad you enjoyed this one. Ya I also heard that rumor about a remaster, I just don't see it making sense unless they did a full blown remake. But I'd think a remake of Morrowind would be better instead. Hope you're doing well and thanks for watching the content.

@@IndustrialGamer To be honest. As a Morrowind fan who would love a remake. I don't really trust bethesda with it, I feel like they'd simplify it to the point that what makes Morrowind special would be lost, That being said. I'm excited for an Oblivion remaster, Hope it's real

I can definitely see cause for concern there. I guess it'll be interesting see how far they go with a remaster of Oblivion if so.

There's a PC mod in the works called Skyblivion (I think that's it's name) it's basically a full rework of Oblivion I think that's as close to a remake as we will see

I think a good game is one that a person can go back and play and never played before and still like, meaning not nostalgia. As a person who's first ES game was Skyrim. I went back and tried to play Oblivion and Morrowind. I am afraid as far as my opinion goes, Oblivion is a bad game, yet Morrowind is a good game.

I've also heard from others that Morrowind is the best game, I'll have to give it a try some day. I've also heard even extreme opinions from others that say Bethesda hasn't made a good game since. I guess it's down to each's personal experience. Fallout 3 was the first major Bethesda RPG I played, I hold it in a special place in my heart but ya, I can understand everyone's different.

Exactly A good game is good no matter how old the game is. However, as you say, nostalgia can prevent you from being able to decide if the game is actually good or if you just happen to have the nostalgia glasses on.
