Found a 14K diamond ring and old newspapers dating 1932. So neat to read the old articles.

I used to renovate old houses and finding old newspapers was always the most interesting things. Once found £400 stuffed down the side of an old sofa in individually folded £10 and £20 notes.

The paper is used (was)as a moisture and air/ wind barrier to help reduce cupping of the floor from moisture and reduce air/wind from coming through the floor. It also helps the contractor rack the floor easier and slid the wood into place. It looks like you have a wide plank Doug fir floor, you are lucky I would leave it.

Here's a tip for Ang Gru: I strongly believe most viewers would like to read more of that paper you found. If you post pages on youtube nice and slow so we can read them you could make dozens of videos emphasizing one or two articles at a time, and I'm certain you would without much effort and hardly any narrative, garner more views than you can imagine, and the rewards may actually surpass the 14k ring you found. Also, I cringed when you used a crowbar on those good looking ancient floor boards. It's spilled milk now, but using a wedge of wood between the crowbar and boards would leave those boards without a blemish. To your credit you did look like you were trying to be careful though, but really not careful enough; wondering what kind of wood it was. Lol, jealous in NY. ciao.

I ripped up some flooring in my 1849 Maine farm house and it was all insulated with news papers from Aug. 16th 1916. It was really cool reading and in the classifieds there were like 20 adds for companies that wanted to buy used false teeth. I'm not kidding. I read a few and left the rest untouched.

don't give me salt pls I have a kind of 1931 big book that has old news issues in it. I found in the back of my closet at the time he was staying with me but then he past away and I’ve never seen it until we were cleaning out the closet. I’ve had it in my closet now for about 4 years. It also has his name a bday on the front of the hard back. Do you think it could be worth something? How does one even look for a place to check to see if it’s worth anything?

It's ALWAYS so neat to find these treasures..... And then PONDER the reason it was found there to begin with..?!? It would be pretty Cool if you could Actually find the " original owner " of the ring......or perhaps a relative...?? Either way , thanks for sharing..... Cheers

More than likely it was put down in place of tar or rosin paper on top of the shiplap flooring/underlayment to stop the hardwood flooring from squeaking when walked on !! Don't be surprised if you find more as it was cheap compared to tar or rosin paper especially during the depression era.

Interesting video. It's nice to find something that gives a tangible link to the history of a house. I'm from England and my first home was Edwardian. One early resident must have been a photographer because I found old photos and developing paraphernalia behind a skirting board in a walk-in understairs cupboard. I imagine it was used as a makeshift darkroom. I've found newspapers too. Fragile items but increasingly rare with time. Did you keep yours?

A CATAL So I looked what the eggs would actually cost today if you count the inflation in. If you want to buy the same dozen eggs today you'ld need to spend 10.92$. So they weren't really cheap back then... Oh and by the way the reason why this happens is because banks can create money out of nowhere.

I once rented a house from a couple that was put in a home and the family sold the house, The new landlord rented the house with out looking through it, me cleaning found old news papers from 1960 1961 1962 1963 and many more from the war, I told him about them but he said to dump them, later I found out that I could of sold them to antique collection but it was to late the trash was already pick up.

Yeah they clearly over looked the real value there, the floors. Going into a structure that was built in that time period, don't go in ripping up floors, wall, etc. because that's the money. I hope they were able to repurpose the wood for future DIY Project.

while i understand the desire to remodel a home but for one that is 100+ years old, it would be better to keep the existing carpentry thats not rotted/damaged in place as it has significant historical and antique value to it - that home may have qualified for the historical preservation act
