Remote Control Barspin Bike Invention! Getting (Super) Awesome With Ryan Nyquist Ep. 20

Ryan Nyquist sets out to invent the first ever spring-loaded spinning BMX handlebars. In an attempt to mechanize BMX barspins, Ryan along with his brother Shea, take several interesting approaches including a coiled spring, pyrotechnics, and a cordless grinder, but it's the combination of a direct drive pully system and a motorcycle starter battery operated by a remote control that really gets Ryan's handlebars spinning on their own. The end result is Ryan pulling off two unassisted barspins-a BMX first! Hell yeah!

it didn't spin in the air with the weaker motor because of the added giro from the wheel spinning, the wheel adds more force and makes it harder to spin.....

+Mirrors Reach Youre right. The motor is opposing the gyroscopic procession of the spinning front wheel which is why the motor went so much faster with the bike standing still than in the air. You could see the effect the gyroscopic procession had on shea when he turned it on full blast at the end of the video and the bike spun him around.

This is so funny, ha ha. I think the first time i saw Nyquist was at a contest in providence. He had a blue beard. I was already over the limit of how many school days could be missed. I was out 2 days before the contest with the flu and the next 2 days in RI. Summer school anyone? I still entered though i was seeing spots. I took a run on Colin's new handmade sob prototype, very very heavy. The production model was much lighter and slightly different. Why at 4:26, centrifical force. When you were static in the shop there was no counter axial forces resisting the rotation in the neck. Once the wheel was spinning the mass of the wheel created so much force the grinder mod could no longer over come it.

why the bars wont spin when jumping the bike?.. its the gyroscopic effect a wheel has when turning round (a very long story about mass and centrifugal forces). to make the auto-barspin while jumping? just stop the rotation of the wheel prior to setting off the auto-spin device. :)

instead of remote, why not switch on the handle bar. when holding the grips, circuit is open, when you let go it closes circuit for a split second, enough to give some spin. less electronics, and also a quicker reaction to enable spin

Its cause the spinning of the tires is an opposite force of the spinning to the bars so its hard on the engine
