Remote start only works inside the vehicle. What am I missing here?

I was pleasantly surprised to find that my last project has some form of a remote start. If only I can get it to operate sensibly!

Thanks for all the pointers. I dropped the car off for the airbag recall but I'll take a closer look when I get it back. One thing that I noticed is that when I attempt to remote start it and it fails, I get the check engine light with a code that says the computer is staying awake with the key out. I'll start with the programming & go from there, I'll post updates later. Thanks again to all of you

It seems to me to be a part of the security part of the automatic start one key have to be left in the car because you shouldn't be able to lock the door and unlock the door with the key in the car so one of the keys have to stay in the car the other one stays with you and you hit it three times with the key that's already in the car with the other key fob and it will start up once it realized the door's been locked three times with the original key left in the car

yes, looks like an aftermarket , system, maybe interfering with the start system , trace wires to see if they have been spliced into original harness wires.

I bought a m35 and for some reason had an old viper remote start that was tucked away in that driver's side footwell above the fuse box. I ended up unplugging the module, removing it and reprogramming the key and I was good to go. Literally had the same problem you were having. Also didnt come with anything but that fob that would only turn the car on by putting it into that slot until I did all that.

edbwoy. im a licensed auto technician in Canada. I also own an m45 and watch your videos thanks for posting them. with this problem I think the problem is that in order for the remote starter to activate it needs to sense a key. a lot of cars have a slot for the spare key in the remote starter module. im not to sure how they work with smart key systems, but I think your problem lies in that. see if you're remote starter module has a spare key slot.

Try keeping a 2nd fob kept inside the fob slot on the left side of the steering wheel. Counter intuitive but it might work lol

It seems to be an aftermarket remote connection that needs to have the keyfob id programmed into to fool the car to think the keyfob is inside the car. For my experience with connecting equipment t the OBD-II, the computer of the car might start create a short in the near future. I had one of those insurance speed trackers that messed up my computer.

This was an aftermarket module. It is supposed to start when you click lock 3x. Engine repair under 1500, considering parts replaced with the engine. My own labor

No, that came on the car. I once saw an eBay link of someone that sells very good looking OEM-style spoilers. They were the ones you stick on using double sided tape. Good reviews all around

No, I don't go with such arbitrary numbers. With good maintenance, you can take them to 400k+. With poor maintenance, they can die before 100k+

When doing a hub replacement I didn't get a speed sensor wire plugged in completely with the same results. Something to take a look at, check all the connections on the rear steering rack while you're underneath.

I own this car and also install remote starters for a living. The issue is the "Immobilizer module" that was used in the installation has either lost part of its RF code programming or the keyfob you have was programmed to the ECM after the fact of anyone knowing there is a Remote Start System in the car. Did you just buy the car?. This Immobilizer Module, whether from VIPER or iDataLink or whomever, essentially replicates the multiplex rolling code sequence transmitted when you engage the remote start via 3LOCK Start (hitting the factory keyfob lock button 3 times fast in succession). So the code is corrupt or missing or not programmed into the module as a 'secure source' to complete the action. The reason why the car starts when you get in it or hold the remote in the window is because during the start up sequence, the vehicle's OEM proximity/Immobilizer antennas see a valid key with a secure RF frequency/code. It bypasses looking for a 'stored code/RF sequence' from the aftermarket remote start module since it immediately sees your 'good' keyfob producing its wireless RF signal within the cabin that instantaneously checks out as 'good'. So it continues the process all the way thru to enable fuel and spark then actually crank the engine. I can help you fix this. Inbox me bro. I actually can use your advice too on my 06 M45 that's barely drivable with a P0300 code. It's got me heartbroken. My 96 Q45 has never skipped a beat. My 2014 Q50 is solid so far. I have had the car for a little over a year. I bought it with a bad engine & a weak battery, so I didn't get a chance to play with it. I reached out to the person who sold it to me for some direction, but he never got back to me. Since it sat mostly dead for a year, is that a reasonable assumption that it lost programming? I got the car back from the shop but have been away from the car, so I've not had a chance to try reprogramming.

@@mathewngao8611 What was the reason for removing the computer? Was it replaced or reflashed in any way? Were new keyfobs programmed to it or did you have to have your old keyfobs reprogrammed by a locksmith or the dealer? As much info as you can offer will help me narrow down the issue. Also, do you know what brand remote start system / module is being used in the car? And are using the Infiniti keyfob to perform the remote start (hit Lock three times quickly)? Lemme know and I'll try to help you.

I would think you need to find the actual remote starter control box. It seems like someone has installed an aftermarket one that you didn't get the fob for. I've run across a similar thing with a Chevy truck. Just my opinion, good luck Ed

@@loquisharobinson9594 It was an option from the factory. The key fob looks the same but there is an extra button for the keyless start on the one I've seen. Neither of my M cars were equipped with it though.
