I’m an original G35 coupe owner since 2004. I wish I would have created a KZbin channel myself considering I’ve had that car on autobahn roads in Germany from 04-09. Hitting 155 mph was a daily occurrence to and from work for me. Then went to Turkey and the UK after that. It’s a rare car overseas and definitely a looker. Still have my G at 252000 miles. Now I’m supercharged with a built engine and still enjoy the car everyday. It’s been very reliable overall; just normal wear and tear for the most part. Since being back stateside in 2018, I don’t drive as much as I used to but enjoy taking the G out now and then. It’s just not as fun as being on the autobahn.

Hi Scotty! Great review. I'm still driving an '05 G35 sedan with 6-speed manual. Bought it off the original owner in 2012. I wanted a family sedan, rear-wheel drive, performance engine with a 6-speed. Not many options were available, but this car has been great. Now has 178K miles and still on the original clutch. Nissan’s VQ35DE is an excellent engine. They can go forever if properly maintained. I’ve owned two 350Zs both with the Revup DE engine. In terms of reliability, my 350Z is the best car I’ve ever owned. Granted I’ve always owned MT equipped cars. Nissan’s rwd ATs aren’t bad (CVTs excluded). But beware of their fwd ATs.

Nissan's vq35de engine reminds me of the Ford cyclone 3.5, people will rather send them to the salvage yard than fix the timing chains, and then they'll call it unreliable these engines can 300,000 miles, I've seen some with 200,000 miles abused and still running.

I’ve owned an ‘03 g35 sedan and now a ‘12 maxima. In my experience the auto in the g35 was awful. These cars are reliable the only reason why they're seen to break down as low as 100k miles is because most of the owners are teenagers, (I am one of them) that drive the car really hard and to its limit which wears down both the engine and transmission. Got an automatic AWD infiniti g35x. All I've gotta say is yeah the manual mode has lag to it between shifts. You can buy a valve body upgrade for the transmission that is supposed to eliminate lag and have a more responsive connection in manual mode. It's a 200$ bolt on. I modded and tuned mine without and it's fine but it would definitely benefit the car. Otherwise, this is the fastest car you can get today for under 10 grand.

I've got an '05 G35x sedan. Single air intake, no Rev Up CPU. It's a beast, especially in the snow with the AWD. EDIT: I would say that the one Scotty is looking at HAS been modified. They have swapped out the CPU. Nissan/Infiniti had 3 basic versions of the 3.5 V6. There was the basic (mine), then they released a higher revving version, was accomplished through tuning via cpu. Then they came out with the dual intake high revving package. Each of these tune packages required a different CPU. You can tell by the engine covers and hood. Basic had all Grey cover and "flat" hood. The 1st high revving had red detailing on engine cover. The dual intake version had both red detailing on engine cover and a bulge on hood for 2nd intake.

I've had zero engine or transmission issues with my automatic 2012 G37xS Sedan over the course of owning it from ~33k to 107k miles. The only issue that's driven me insane is the fact that the door locks have ALL gone bad (and is apparently a known issue/flaw with Nissan/Infiniti). Other than that issue (which, don't get me wrong, has been a massive PITA), it's been an absolute blast to drive and own with no other issues beyond normal routine maintenance.

Hey Scotty! Love your channel. Gotta say though I bought a used 2007 Infiniti M35x with 89,000 miles back in 2013 and never had any major issues. I did have to replace the AC compressor in 2017 but that's it. The car drove like a dream. Never had transmission issues and the car was maintained well. I lost it recently in a flood due to Hurricane Ida. However if Ida never happened I would still be driving it today.

My 08 G35 sedan runs just fine at 220k miles, no issues, no emission problems no nothing, the late model G's with the VQ35HR is a better engine than the DE as it doesnt burn any much of oil, has a good low end torque and actually sounds better, also that the HR engine is long lasting compared to the DE

Notice the cracks in the dashboard when Scotty does the acceleration test! Shame on infiniti for not addressing their dashboard issues like Toyota and Lexus did with a recall. Also, the passenger OCS sensor is another failure point which will eventually show it's ugly head. Then the driver will get a nice red light on the dash to remind you. Only fix for that is a very expensive passenger bottom seat cushion with the sensor built in or an aftermarket bypass to turn off that stupid light. At least the owner of this car doesn't have the sticky dashboard problem which has to be cleaned often from the UV rays and heat although cracks is not a fair tradeoff either.

@@ssjMaximum22Goku never again for me. Past recalls on dash's melting, cracking, bubbling up on cars before 2008, now newer cars are showing the same issues after a few years out of warranty. If you don't believe me, google it. Then factor in the passenger OCS failures where the fix is a 5k bottom seat cushion because just the sensor and module is not sold or designed to be fixable. Otherwise yes it's a fun car, but the quality is just not there anymore

Scotty can you make a video on switching oil viscosities? I live in cold climate in Canada and my car is American. Owner always used 5w40 but i was thinking about switching to 5w30. Some Mechanics say you should never switch oil viscosities this late into the life cycle of a car because it just might not agree with it (my car has 192,000 miles 03' jetta diesel). What do you think?
@TTime6853 жыл бұрын
An engine doesn't care if it's Canadian or American lol.. 5-10 weight difference won't hurt a car that old, especially if it's a pushrod and/or diesel. Newer cars with tight OHC tolerances etc is what you have to worry about
@zanesutherland4063 жыл бұрын
Volkswagen recommends the viscosity of non-synthetic oil to be 5W40 and 5W30 if it is synthetic oil. This is for all engine options available for the 2003 Jetta.
@RandomlnternetGuy3 жыл бұрын
My thought was more or less that this car came from Florida where it is always hot. I live on Northern Ontario and a hot day here is 21° celcius like 1 month out of the year. I figured a thinner oil would help protect on the colder climate. It was only imported this year.
@RandomlnternetGuy3 жыл бұрын
Majority of engine wear comes from cold starts and thats pretty much every 8 hours the car is off here. Sooo thicker oil theoretically warms up slower right?? Im probably just being too hardcore about it.
@briandalponte58983 жыл бұрын
If anything you’d want a 0w-40, no? Cause the first number is the viscosity at cold temps and the second is the viscosity at operating temp. If your car is at operating temp, it doesn’t matter if you live in 0 degree weather or 100 degree weather, the cold viscosity is what you should be worried about. Or that’s my understanding anyways
@55Berg3 жыл бұрын
Agree with everything he said except when he said the automatic transmission is the biggest issue with these cars. That’s far from true, the autos are super reliable and I’ve rarely ever heard of people having issues with them. Also the vq engines that have dual intakes and dual maf sensors are awesome engines. They make more power and are just as reliable. Not to mention they scream at 7500 rpm
@jacquesc31663 жыл бұрын
Very much agreed. 5+ years on my 2013 G37xS sedan as 2nd owner (79,000-->173,000 km), she gets a proper warm-up and at least one big pull every time I drive. The 7AT ne-ver misses when romped on, and at mild throttle the multiple-disc torque converter gives at an impression of "2-step" shifts at partial lock... which unfamiliar drivers will interpret as slipping, especially compared with the old 5AT. After servicing the TB's on a dual intake HR/VHR, Scotty would probably skip the idle re-learn and get a CEL afterwards LOL... 2006 G35x sedan, 2006 350z GT coupe, 2007 350z GT roadster, never a single issue with the 5AT either (and the TCM on my 06 coupe was Uprev-tuned).
