If you have a solid colored background or are working with product images, why bother with complex background removal adjustments such as the pen tool? Instead, try this amazing technique for removing all of one color in Photoshop called select color.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was struggling to get this to work and your video helped me figure it out. Also, I appreciate how thorough your videos are-I saw a few comments complaining about the length, but IMO we need more content like yours that discusses when and why to use various techniques and takes the time to show things clearly. That’s much more valuable than leaving important stuff out-if people are on a time crunch or don’t need the background, they can easily scroll to different parts of the video.

How do you do this but with a video? I understand removing the color, but it only removes the color per frame. I have a spinning logo with a green background and am trying to make the entire logo transparent but still spinning.

I have a pic with five brush strokes in the color of red. Each stroke gets progressively darker. I have black lettering over laid on the brush strokes. I'm trying to remove the black in the lettering so the color of the shirt underneath comes thru when applied. When I try to remove the black, some of the red brush strokes become transparent. I'm assuming because of the darkness of the reds. How do just remove the black in the lettering and not the brush strokes?

When the selection is active, it automatically applies when a layer mask is added. So just click the layer mask icon 👍🏻

This is WAY more useful than the magic wand when it comes to intricate patterns, like lace, brick walls etc. in which you want to cut out specific parts/background.

Good video except you can't see ANY of the details you are talking about since you are not zoomed in to see the changes you are doing which is crutial to do when doing such cutouts otherwise you get lots of artifacts and fuzzy edges... Zoom is your friend... zoom up close and see the details... while it might be fine for web resolution, anything for print or large format it has to be perfect.
