Remove Alternator Chevrolet Equinox 2010-2016 Ecotec 2.4 terrain

The video shows the way to remove the alternator on the equinox and terrain from 2010-2016.
Very simple just needs a few tools and 13mm socket and wrench.
This will fix a broken alternator or failing because of lights turning on or power saving mode on DLC

This is a really excellent video on removing the alternator on the 2010 and later model Equinoxes and Terrains with the 2.4L Ecotec engine. The camera work is clear and steady, the comments on what to do and how to do it are clear and to-the-point, and you can easily see the small area you have to work in. For those with the 2010 (LAF) engine, the brake booster pump (which he laid to the side at the beginning to get to the alternator) is in a different place in the 2010 engine and does not have to be moved. Removing the bottom alternator bolt first and the rear-most top alternator bolt second makes it easier to hold the weight of the alternator until you are ready to take out the third bolt (top front) and remove the alternator. On the 2010 engine, the red battery cable can bolt on in such a way as to rub against the plastic intake manifold, making it difficult to get the new alternator positioned correctly, and you can’t see clearly what you are trying to do. On the 2011 engine, the battery cable comes in from the side making it much easier to position the new alternator, and to re-install it. I am in the middle of wrestling a new alternator into my 2010 Equinox with the 2.4 Ecotec engine, and I can tell you that getting the new one in has been three times harder than removing the old one, because of the red battery cable problem. Also, note that there is a main engine grounding point behind the alternator (you can see it on the video) - while you have the alternator removed, be sure that this ground is not corroded and that the connection is tight. I took my alternator out solely to check this hidden engine ground, and then tested the alternator while it was out, and discovered it was in bad shape and had to be replaced. I had many of the error codes he reported in his comments, and I hope the new alternator helps fix them. Thanks again for making this video - you did a great job. Hope the install of the new one was as easy as the removal.

Man, I'm glad you took the time to make this vid. I'm facing the same chore on my 2015 Equinox. One other thing to mention is that whatever that electronic thing is on top of the battery interferes with the pos post of the battery. If you want to charge the batt up with a charger it pays to pull that junk off to connect the charger cable. That electronic (computer?) piece is bolted down with a 10mm bolt to the left side of batt.

When I was watching this video I had many thoughts going though my mind - 1 Damm this dude has courage -2 definitely not a pro, 3- lots of courage for making a video. definitely a first timer. for sure he has no knowledge on automotive. Very important to note that the positive cable connects to the starter positive terminal, so if you change out the starter the cable to the alternator will be removed also, DONT forget to reconnect it to the starter also. Sometimes it will spring away from the terminal and be missed when starter is completed. Then quest what, you start the suv and starter working good but shortly after you discover the alternator is not working. Take note of this.

They completely screwed the 2013 2.4l 4 cylinder. That bolt at top right isn't a bolt. It's a nut on rod coming out of engine, and there's not enough room to slide it off.
