Thanks so much for this. My ancient DW625E had been upside down in the router table for years, and eventually started shrieking and spewing out bits of plastic (what used to be the fan). About to put it in the skip and thought maybe KZbin can help. So followed your instructions and replaced the bearings, the switch, and the fan and its now working as good as new. Thanks again.

Thank you for taking the time to make and post this video. I was struggling to figure out the best way to remove the bearings. Sadly this router is discontinued and Dewalt doesn't make one this big anymore but you can still find parts! Been a great router for the last 20 years!

Thanks for this demo, I just replaced the bearings on my Elu MOF 177E which was made in Switzerland, it looks identical to this Dewalt, I believe it is because Dewalt bought them out and carried on producing them in the same factory but changed the colour and name only. I bought my Elu in London over 30 years ago and apart from replacing the cable a few years back this is the first major repair i have carried out, I have done a lot of heavy duty routing with this machine so i think that is a pretty good endorsement.

Thank you . Excellent Video. Just replaced the bearings on my old ELU MOF177E. Extrra care has to be taken when removing the on/off switch as i broke the thin plastic connection while dismantling. was quite expensive to replace.

WOW, as you pulled the yellow body off of the motor casing I had to stop this video and say how impressed I am of the utter complexity of DeWalt's router just to replace two bearings. I have two of these DeWalt 3 horsepower routers and love them both BUT I am in the process of replacing the two bearings in m 890 Porter Cable router and it is SO MUCH EASIER then what I am watching here and I have two of these routers. Oh well, some design engineers can do and some can't. looks like Porter Cable won this one big time.

I had my DW625 only about 8 month, I've only used it for one job, mounted in my WoodRat, tonight while using it the router slowed down a LOT and then I could smell burning plastic..... oh no. Thanks for the video, I took the whole thing apart and the bearings are fine, and I could find nothing wrong, but watching your video I found that at 9:24 or so of the video you have to really grunt to take the three screws holding the retaining cup on the bottom of the router, the three screws in my router were almost falling out, and you could see in the housing where the outer race of the bearing was spinning. I put it all back together and made sure those screws are TIGHT and I think it will be OK, fingers crossed. I will get new bearings for it right away, as I do realize that pulling the router apart put stress on the existing bearings, but I'm in the middle of a big job and I can't have this router out of the loop for long. Thanks again for the video, well done and informative. Domo

Hi Duncan, I have a trend T11 it’s mounted on the router table and It vibrates allot especially when I put a larger router bit, some large moulding bits I spoke to trend the told me that this could cause numerous of things it could be Armature or bearing I don’t know what’s wrong with it, I don’t know how to fix this problem. The. Router is quite new I purchased in 2017 and it has very little use. Could you please let me know what the problem is if you can. Thank you so much
@dnmnsmith3 жыл бұрын
@@adnanlami5373 either put it in for professional repair, or evaluate it yourself. Bearings were unnecessary in my case, issue was speed sensor in my case. Replaced the bearings because I was in there. You should be able to evaluate whether the bearings are solid, and whether armature is straight and balanced.

Good point about the tolerance of the lower bearing. I have an old Elu MOF96E Type 2 for which I just ordered new bearings. The lower is an NSK 6003Z, upper is NSK 608Z. The 6003Z comes in two variants, 'standard' and C3. The C3 is a looser internal fit allowing greater thermal expansion. It is slightly more expensive. I would have bought NSK from a bearing supplier, this being a brand I trust. However, I became unsure which type is correct for my router. So instead I bought itemised MOF96E spares from a tool specialist. This meant I paid a bit more and could not choose the brand. I await delivery, fearing Chineseum engineered to die on warranty period + 1 day, not the 30 years I got from 1991 vintage NSK.

This is a great video! My Dewalt 625 has been in my Router Table for several years, and the base plate gets hot quickly. I need new bearings, and this video is exactly what I need. Good tip about the "wavy" washers. Thanks, and Great Job! I'll post when I have successfully completed my replacement.

The ring nut you remove at 9-45 allows access to the face of the main bearing on the Elu MOF 177e. My nut came off easily. This enables removal of the bearing plastic cover, if you're careful & lucky, which then enables re-greasing. A five minute job which would've prolonged the life of my 25 year old router when it started sounding like it was running dry - instead stripped the whole router down and damaged the shaft attempting to remove the smaller top bearing which was stuck solid and a puller threatened to break the plastic housing. With hindsight I wish I'd just re-greased the bone dry main bearing - a simple, easily accessible option worth a try. A five minute job at the most and adequate for an old router used less than an hour per week - but not as good as fitting a new bearing!

The bearings are sealed units. You can't lubricate them.
@jonathanemery-barker2908 Жыл бұрын
@@sproutyDPYou could, but the seals are not supposed to be removed. Generally they get damaged in process and they are no longer sealed units and allow water and dust ingress which actually accelerates wear. Better just to replace them every 20 years or so. I did my main bearing today in under an hour. Admittedly I have a hydraulic press which helped. You don't need to remove the rear bearing at all.
@jonathanemery-barker2908 Жыл бұрын
@@sproutyDP @sproutyDP Aye, I'm sure you're right and that it'll be fine for your situation. However, if anyone else is interested, then it may be useful for them to know that changing the main bearing is a simple job which does not require removing the top/rear bearing or damaging anything in the process. I'll get back to my day job which has nothing to do with bespoke joinery, if that was indeed relevant. 😄
@jonathanemery-barker2908 Жыл бұрын
If a sealed bearing has run dry then it means it is no longer sealed. It is highly likely to be worn and even if greased could still happily seize on you. All I can say is that if the same happens to a wheel bearing on your car then please do not just stick a bit of grease in it. I have seen a bearing which had welded itself to the hub causing a lock up at 70mph. Genuinely not sure why I'm bothering to type this other than the hope that someone finds it useful.

Hi, thanks for these videos! Please help... I’ve reassembled everything and the router is running backwards! 😐 I’ve checked the wiring with my other router (I have two the same) and it’s correct. Any ideas? I’m totally lost for ideas.... is there anything else I could have assembled the wrong way?

Great video, thanks for sharing ! I have a similar Dewalt Router which is excessively sparking at the brushes. I stripped down the router as per your video, and cleaned the commutator with 3000 grit wet and dry and rebuilt it installing new brushes, but it is exactly the same - any ideas on how to fix this? Many thanks in advance !

So useful thanks!, I only needed to watch to see how the speed controller came out but will put it in my saved videos in case the bearings need doing at a later date. Is there any point in lubricating the bearings in the machine I’ve just bought? It’s high mileage and everything is stiff but the motor runs free with no play in bearings. Thanks

Hi. Just doing this job now. Any tips as to how remove the bottom bearing if it sticks, as mine has, to the armature? I removed the bottom plate as in your video but the bearing didn’t come away with it. Any ideas as it’s impossible to even lever from the plastic fan. Thanks in advance..

Well, I answered my own question. After finally getting the bearing off, I realised that it really had seized and as such, when pulling the bottom bearing, it broke the alloy base. Oh well... it did me well. I hope my new one lasts 17 years like this one did....

Do you have to remove the speed control unit if you are just replacing the brushes! Or can you just remove the 2 screws on the cap and remove the black cap. And then is it possible to swap the brushes? Great video btw. Just ordered some bearings and wavy washers and spacer, before they are discontinued :-/

@DriverDude1009 жыл бұрын
Dewalt has used specialty bearings in this router with modified clearances and seals. You can probably get away with using off the shelf bearings, but not many are specified to the extreme rotational velocities that a router generates. I suggest you source your bearings from Dewalt. As such, Dewalt has an excellent servicenet web page that you can reference to source the replacement bearings. Google dewalt dw625 parts to find their servicenet webpage.
