I had a good job with great benefits and a super boss, the whole nine yards. But I quit to train horses full time. Damn, it was scary business with a family to feed. It all worked out and I've never regretted that choice but sometimes wonder how I never got ulcers. Still, I'd do it again........ Good luck and be brave, it'll work out.

For those of you who want to change your life, I do have a couple of thoughts I would like to share. Change is hard, so be patient with yourself. You'll have missteps along the way, but don't let that discourage you. Just pick back up and keep moving forward. Just like trying to train that beautiful little mare, it takes time. But you can get there. Be vigilant that you don't drop back into your old ways. Trust is hard to earn and easy to lose. Blessings to each of you working to better yourselves!

I've come to this realization over the years when going through stints of sobriety. I set the goal to not drink for a specific amount of time. It's tough at first, the habit is hard to break, but after a few weeks it becomes the new norm and it no longer takes effort to not drink. The thing is, it's not enough to just NOT do something...I call them "negative" goals. Goals that remove bad behaviour. In order for the goal to be productive we need to set two goals. One to stop the bad behaviour and one to replace the behaviour. NOT doing gives us motivation, there are small wins when we hold ourselves to our word and deny the desire to do that thing that we are trying to stop. We need to leverage that motivation that comes with those small wins and put that energy toward building a new habit or skill. It's not enough to "not" do, we need to "do" do. There's my wisdom for the week - we need to do do ;)

Your videos have lifted me up. I wanna thank you, & your family for making this all possible, Dwayne. I can't tell ya in short order how much all this means to me. You're my new favorite channel. I aint far removed from my farming, & self reliant lineage. My grandparents had a farm, & their folks did too when they walked with their oxen, & horses North here in Michigan. The seventies & eighties dried it up. So, they ended up leasing our property out, & you prolly know the rest of the story. But Grampa always had a horse or two. I wasn't much good riding, but they (horses) seemed to like me, lol. My heroes have Always been cowboys. And that aint just me singing. That's a true statement. I always wanted fo be that guy. Us kids did hay. I Always got stuck in the maw because I was scrawny I guess. No fresh air for the skinny fellas. Lol. Well, I'm awkward. I'm a newer subscriber. You're a good sorta dude, & I like having coffee with you. It's been kind of sh*tty in my world as of late. But sitting with you has really helped & I want to thank you for that. God Bless you, & your wife & kids. Everyone should give you ten minutes. You sure remind me of my Dad and older brothers. And all the elders. You got that beetle, lol. Any dang how. Thanks.

early education is so important for horses you never know where they will end up and education is the key to getting them a good home. They should be trained with ALL kinds of bits ...and halters etc. The more schooling they have the more options they have. And its harder the older they are. Thanks for taking time to teach her and not giving up on her!

Perfect analogy, Dewayne. None of us is actually where we actually need to be at this point in time. Yes what you are doing with her is what we all need to do in our lives. Adding the positive without subtracting the negative never works out. You will revert to the negative over the positive. Taking the negative away without replacing it with something positive, will probably result in something else negative sneaking in.

what a wise man, i love the way he connected the horses behavior and improvement to peoples, the way he accepts her lows because we experience them too. It proves that we are not so complicated after all and we’re often so out of touch with the reality of things. And the way he connects and dotes on this horse, its something not a lot of people do with animals, they’re often treated in a way where all they get is affection through baby talk and unnecessary spoiling, which i find a little downgrading…washes away their true nature. they are often being treated in a way that i find a little immature so it’s awesome to see this, true understanding, respect and connection with this beautiful horse. You truly appreciate her beauty, and the beauty of her soul.

Love your timing with the horse in this video. There are few horse trainers who link good feelings/attitude with the desired action from the horse, I feel this is so important. Most people can make a horse do something given enough tools but if they pin their ears and swish their tails on the way through and put in minimum effort, its a but like your teenager slamming the door on the way to do their chores, they have accepted your authority but not understood or accepted the task as important, I find when you get the lovely soft attitude from horses they just start trusting your decisions and saying yes to more and more things. Teenagers too😁
