It's funny, after watching this I was outside with my toddler and I noticed that he was naturally sitting in these positions. I guess we forget this stuff as we grow up.

So true. Unfortunately, we are taught/ forced to sit in unnatural positions. Its no wonder we loose touch with our bodies as we get older.

Hey Tony. REALLY enjoyed this video of yours - I work from home but SIT. So I've started doing some squats and movement into my day and generally get up every 45 mins just to move. But the end of your video looks at the squat position - something I adopted recently (in my lifespan, relatively speaking) but don't do enough: I'm from the UK, but when I lived in South Korea for a few years back in 2011, they traditionally have no chairs at home. At first, this was quite strange. This is something you advocate - and so they sit on small square mats/cushions (or nothing) with very low tables, and this is the same in traditional restaurants out there too. At the food table, it's typically kneeling or sitting crossed-legged, like kids do (I just observe my 5-yr-old daughter and how she sits on the floor playing). Interestingly, what you find is that ALL older people are able to sit in the squatted position. Often just watching the world go by - particularly in rural areas (where we lived - rice, crop, and, chili pepper farmers). Just listening to your Rangan Chatterjee podcast ;) Thanks for your work. 👍

Wonderful video. Just what I was looking for. I stretch every day between 30 to 60 minutes and have done for several months now, but my flexibility is not improving that much. I used to be very active (long runs and bike rides) and I never stretched until the age of 29. I am constantly uncomfortable (my hips, lower back, upper back and neck). I think this is what I need to sort my mobility out for good.

Oh I wish I saw this comment when you posted, I have been trying to find out what people do for this type activity. I am full-time floor-sitting when at home and constantly moving my little table boxes/cushions etc. around to find the best heights for various activities. The only thing I haven't figured out a good arrangement for is drawing. If you happen to see this comment, I would love to hear what kind of arrangement you use, e.g. art surface elevated, right on the floor etc. Cheers!

I am quite a one-side-dominant in the first position since that's the one I naturle adopt when I am working at the garden, cleaning up the weeds and wildgrasses. It is very confortable, I could stay in that position for quite a long while, but I'll try to swich every so on... thank you!

Awesome video!! Thank you very much for the inspiration.. I was wondering if it’s „normal“ to shift from one position to the other every 5 min and I thought maybe I’m not flexible enough😁
@JSMinstantcoaching3 жыл бұрын
I believe it's also natural to shift from positions to positons ... your Body constantly commands you so, even when you feel pretty comfortable in one of them. We barely notice this in a chair, at least not that fréquently ; -)

Try to go slowly, do what’s comfortably possible. When you maybe had an injury or normal „wear and tear“. And maybe after a while other positions are possible after a longer process

Campers, wear waterproof pants when it's wet so you can just sit in the mud and debris. Much better than sitting on fixed branches and stools made from a stack of hard sticks.

I don’t think it does. It’s not like someone has to have the laptop a yard away. They have to reach the keyboard after all. Get a little tray table. Use a box. Use a plastic storage bin. Put the laptop on those to get it up to height.

Well, if you are young and healthy, these are useful perhaps. But at 52 years of age, with chronic lower back pain, these poses are simply not possible in any way for someone like me. As for the squat, children are not adults- and adults are not children, ligaments change and transform.
