A few days ago, I sat in my room at my desk all day cramming for school. I just started school back up and I'm not used to spending time at a desk. As time went on, my back started to hurt, my whole body was tense, and I just felt overall *unwell*. I have a standing desk attachment, but when I need to focus intently on difficult material, it's easier for me to focus when I sit. I intuitively moved my standing desk attachment to floor and just sat on the ground (crosslegged, crouching in deep squat, whatever was comfortable at the moment), and after just a few hours I felt almost completely back to normal!

i like your setup you gave there, and yes! when ever i leave my chair and find a nice place to sit and getting use to sitting and move around and change position, it has this difference perception of time since the body automatically pushes us to move all the time as natures wanted us to do, always on the go for something new and fresh!

My favorite position is Hero’s pose, a yoga position, where one sits on one’s derrière, with knees bent and feet back on each side of the derrière. That’s tough for most people, especially if one has knee problems. To make it easier, sit on a yoga block placed horizontally under the derrière, with feet along each side. When I feel like changing position, I sit cross-legged on a yoga block or do a yoga squat. BTW, I got my coffee-table-height desk at IKEA.

you can also have a small blanket under you butt, knee or feet to improve comfort and reduce strain. Like in the squat, if you cannot touch the floor with your heels, you can use something to lift the floor instead.

Great video Mark. I’m catching up to your age and much appreciate your info that I can send off to my friends to show them you don’t have to act in a stereotypical ‘old’ way, but rather a archetypical fit aging way. Lol.

I have always done this to some extent which I think is a bit 'ADHD', but the main challenge I find is the 'until my body wants to move' thing. I'm normally so focused on what I'm doing that I can forget even that I was desperate for the bathroom 4 hour ago - best believe I can forget my legs are getting sore! It would be awesome to have an idea how long is a 'normal' amount of time to manage each posture so I could set up some prompts.

Hi Mark, I seemed to feel so much better after sitting on the floor as compared to a chair while I work. I was diagnosed with a building disc l5/s1. Have you seen improvement in people with lower back pain from sitting on the floor? thanks again for sharing.

Great vid, but that last stretch isn't an ancient stretch, and can be detrimental to the bent knee. I know this from experience. Movement expert Pavel Tsoutsiline warns people not to do it

What do you do if the poses are immediately uncomfortable. I seem to be deformed and unable to do these - I fall over or strain... I am afraid of forcing an injury...

Listen, just Google yoga Sitting postures they are way easy and beneficial and from my own experience, these type of sitting positions hurt initially but later on they become comfortable. Initially I could only do Vajra Asan (Yoga position) for like 2-3 min max. but now I can sit for hours, it's really good for digestion and spine and Mind.......

Hi, do you know if there is any information about blood circulation between sitting on chairs vs sitting on the ground? Thank you
@queenofscrolls75852 жыл бұрын
I do know that the circulation goes better to the heart when sitting on the floor. It pools down to the feet more in chairs.

Straight high quality chairs are unbeatable. Imagine worrying about changing posture all the time.. How to write in certain positions, to read.. type.. While on chair you can also move mouse with high precision. Is science going backwards?
