I knew as soon as I saw the “Dad-sneakers” it was going to be a “shut up and listen to the good education I’m about to get” moment. Great work, thank you sir! 👊🏼

This was great advice.. I wasnt 100% certain how I was going to remove it and after watching your video I know that was the way to go. followed your plan exactly and it worked great for removing the bigger thin set with hammer drill and smoothing out with the grinder and diamond blade. You were spot on with the dust cover that attaches to the vacuum!!

Thanks! Yeah, that was one of the many projects that I was very happy with in our bathroom remodel. It worked out very well. Thanks for watching and I’m glad that it was useful for you!

You’re welcome. Yeah, I try to pare it down to just what is needed. I think it helps to keep people’s interest that way. I see you’re getting close to your monetizing qualifier of 1,000 subs. Just experienced that last summer. I put you one closer to that milestone and gave you some views. I enjoy your Kubota mower videos. Good luck!

This is the way I used the same setup to remove a 6' x 6' area of thinset from a slab with zero dust in 45 minutes. Removing that material by hand would have taken hours and been a nightmare. Only suggestion is to use an additional washer to position the bottom of the diamond cup close to the bottom of the dust collector brushes. Then you don't have to push so hard to make contact.

Good idea! Yes, this method is absolutely the best. Hard to imagine doing it without the grinder.

You’re welcome!! Yeah, short of ripping up the subfloor and replacing it, the hammer drill, chisel bit and grinding wheel with vacuum attachment are the only way to go! Glad it helped! Good luck with your project!

Thank you! I just pulled up my tile and thinset in my master-bath, it was this adhesive stuff still on my OSB. Now I I know what to do. I was looking at selflevel but I am not that skilled for that! I'm heading to Harbor Freight this weekend!

Sure, you’re welcome! Like I mentioned in the video, some of the best money I’ve ever spent. Makes a seemingly difficult job so easy after finding the right procedure. Piece of cake!

Did you use a fine dust filter on your shop vac or just a general one?
@DIYBoomers

I just used the general filter that came with the shop vac and got great results with that and the dust shroud on the angle grinder. I was very happy with it. Thanks for watching.

I just got my grinder set up like this and it absolutely RIPS through the mortar. Only problem is my Shop Vac has a bad filter that kicks out fine dust, so I'm waiting on some stuff that will reduce that.

Sure, it’s a Bauer - 4” Diamond Turbo Cup Wheel and I picked it up at a Harbor Freight store for around $30. The dust shroud is a Hercules - 4” to 5” Surface Grinding Dust Shroud also at Harbor Freight for around $30. Links to both below. www.harborfreight.com/4-in-diamond-turbo-cup-wheel-57565.html www.harborfreight.com/4-in-to-5-in-surface-grinding-dust-shroud-57486.html

Thanks. Yeah, a little drastic unless there’s a good reason for it. I bought the Bauer 4” Diamond Turbo Cup Wheel for around $30 at Harbor Freight. Did you hit any nails or screws? How did the grinding wheel took it?
@DIYBoomers
@DIYBoomers Жыл бұрын
I tried to make sure that all nails and screws were below the surface before starting but I did scrape a couple screws. As soon as I hit them, I stopped and got them lowered. With just a little contact, it didn’t cause any noticeable damage to the wheel.

From someone who has done flooring professionally- Ideally any screws or nails are below the subfloor for the best holding power and if they are very proud then drive them in further, but any quality diamond cup will eat the head with no damage to the wheel smoothing out the surface. The first time you hit a head though it will spark and may startle you

The grinder is a Porter Cable model PCEG011. Tap the link below. I picked up the grinding wheel and the dust shroud at Harbor Freight. I refuse to put mortar under the backboard. I don't care what anyone says, I screw down gypsum back board using a million screws and that's it. Removing mortar is the worst most un-fun project ever.

Can’t really argue with that! Removing thinset is a BIG pain. Everyone pretty much follows industry procedures but sounds like that should work just fine.
