You want a car to be perceived as low-slung as possible to convey sportiness... but beyond the look, you actually WANT it to be low to help lower center of gravity. This design is a failure, and comparing it to the Bangle 5 series, a car that wasn't great looking either, is probably even an insult to the Bangle era cars.

@@Todestuete def not looking for hybrid or e-only features. i'm on the side of the skeptics about this move towards hybrids for high-performance cars because of the loss of visceral feeling from a V8 motor as well as the increasingly complex engines on these cars that only dealers can fix at criminally high rates. but this said, i've only driven the newer NSX which is a hybrid. it was mad quick and fast, but lacked the roar of a monstrous motor.

Im disappointed honestly… I see why they priced it cheaper - The performance numbers are extremely mid, especially for 730hp - It’s way too heavy - It’s slower than the previous M5 its replacing - It’s slower than the all-electric i5 M60 (0-60) - It’s slower than the 4cyl+hybrid C63 The next E63 and RS6 is going to crush this with their V8+hybrid setups. This needed to be at least 800hp or more with how heavy it is

Priced the same as the predecessor which in this market is bloody insane. Standard equipment like merino leather, pan roof, heads up display, bowers and wilkins speakers, m adaptive suspension, front heated and electric m seats, flat bottomed m steering wheel, ambient lighting, heated steering wheel, reverse camera, comfort access, tinted windows, 4 zone climate control, automatic boot release. BMW's formula for making the new M5 successful: 1. We'll make it ugly. Headlights that sit way up high, bland side-view, fat looking (maybe not just a look!), light up grille, etc. 2. We'll make it weigh a half-ton more! Heavier is better, right? 3. We'll make the interior rival a 70's disco, force users to adjust everything on a screen, and blind the driver with light-up stuff 4. We'll make the driver lug around a half-ton more weight AND get slower and worse power : weight ratio from the prior generation. What a joke, BMW. Do us a favor, will you? Hire a decent designer. Go back to SPORTY and ELEGANT designs - not these fat, ugly things with cartoonish features. Get back to actual ergonomics - we don't want to adjust everything through a screen. And IF you're going to go hybrid, make the formula work... not lugging around much more weight and see worse performance.

When I look at the competitor: Mercedes Amg GT 63 S e performance. It has got 843 hp, 1.470 Nm and weighs 2.380 kg. 2.8 seconds 0 to 100. Even the new M5 Competition probably won‘t get there. Quite deceiving.

Mercedes AMG GT 63s is not a competitor. The E class is a competitor for the 5 series.
