I tore down my Shovelhead and installed one of Ray’s "O-ring spacers". It sealed that sucker up tight, no more drips. Just make sure you know which spacer you need, BEFORE you order, or he will cancel the sale. Good stuff, thanks for taking the time to make this vid.

I have searched the internet about how to get that seal out. The paint can opener did exactly the trick. Thank You there are hundreds of videos on how to install it but only one on how to remove it

This is EXACTLY what I wanted to show when I started making this video. I had a few ideas (which didn't work) and I wanted to show the couple of suggestions I'd read in forums (which did not work for me) and when I was stumped... looking at my tools... saw the paint can opener on the shelf "Well that won't work." TRIED IT... and I am very glad this helped you!

@@IanLandesman have the super nut; couldn't get it to tighten. sprocket was still loose......you don't go to war with a large slide plier and the trans on my basement sink. live and learn? 61 little late for learning.

What direction did you put the double lip seal? With the grooves in or out? They're not actually grooves in the seal but appear to have curved lines on one side of it and a lip facing out on the other side. Thanks.

Been too long for me to tell you 100%. I think more flat side was out? I put new one in like old one came out.

I am very happy to read that you enjoyed! I put this video out thinking my friends who watch my usual motovlogs would tune right out, but I'll occasionally do this style as my Buell for seal video has hundreds of hours of viewtime and thousands of clicks (several every day) thanks to the search terms and it being a technical walkthrough nobody else has up. A few folks did similar videos that helped me, but they were LONG, unedited, and skipped over some essential parts... so like this one... I made a video that filled the gap and would have helped me.

My 67 and my 78 4 speed shovelheads don't leak oil, they mark their spots. ALOT😊

The small seal you took out with the paint can opener, is the part # for it 12013A??
@IanLandesman4 жыл бұрын
Doc Holiday I bought an entire seal kit for all years of the four speed. Can’t help you there. Sorry.

Did the O-ring spacer seal it up for good? Thinking about getting one.

I only ride it about once a month, but no puddles on the floor anymore and I keep checking the trans fluid for top up and not needing to add any like I use to.

left the cork out this morn. worried about the O ring collar / seal working out. not pulling it apart! cork wasn't showing any leakage anyway. Shouldn't work on sh@$%#t the day after Thanksgiving! Thanks.
@IanLandesman4 жыл бұрын
Don't worry about the cork. Others have commented they don't put in and will be fine.

@@IanLandesman I have an older trans without the provision for a bearing support so with the longer late shovel main shaft it tends to flex and destroy the seal faster, and I like to ride it like stole it.

Very informative video. So Ian, what's the verdict did it stop your leak?

Yes, I ride the bike around town about once a month and she doesn't even drip anymore.

@@IanLandesman Good to know. I ordered the O-ring spacer and will be replacing seals in the next few days. I may also go with the Super nut as well. Hop that cures my issues. I found the video very helpful especially using the paint can opener to remove the main drive gear oil seal. Thanks.
