Thank you so much. Before I watch your video I had dug for an hour and still had not hit the bottom. After that I watched two videos yours and a guy who used a chain and a bottle neck jack. After watching your video I decided to go with yours because we had ratchet straps in my truck and tons of 2x 4s pn the property. I had my 13-year-old watch the video and then he got excited and got the ratchet straps. He had the t-post and cement out of the ground in about 15 or 20 minutes. I'll post it on my Facebook and KZbin pages so that you can watch it. BIG THANKS!!!

There are a lot of comments on here giving advice on how to improve the method. And I appreciate all of them. I was having tunnel vision. I needed the fence posts removed quick, and I just followed the video I watched. I didn't think about how to improve along the way. I mean the method worked the first time, the day before this, so I didn't mess with success. Never thought I'd be approaching 250,00 views almost 2 years later. Thanks to everyone.

Imagine if you knew that and did that with the first post. Knowledge is power.

Hey, getting a fence post out in so little time is a great achievement. The only tweak I would suggest is, when the timber is lifted to it's highest, and you are maxed out on leverage, ease off and let it lie horizontal. Either put a thick timber chock under the short end and lever again, or ease off the strap and push the 4x2 through so that the short end becomes a foot longer. Then repeat the levering. It should be kinder to your back too. But I like what I see. Thank you for that.
@ChrisCrawford62064 жыл бұрын
Just putting another 2x4 or more, at the contact point, making it higher, would increase the leverage. Is that what you mean? My father pointed that out immediately.
@1851davidb4 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisCrawford6206 Yes, that's right. Also try shifting the leverage point on the long 4x2 so that you are not levering right at the end, but a foot or so from the end. Once again, great video. Thank you for taking the time to make it.

When you limited out with the 2 x 4 being near straight up in the air, you can put a rock or something similar under the 2 x 4 about a foot or so back from the pole and push down on the 2 x 4. That is easier leverage to push down than push up...

After you had pulled it up if you had put a block of timber or a few house bricks underneath the timber you could have pushed downwards and levered it up just an idea I thought might be worth a try.

Great start they just never taught you the second step. After the first lift you raise the height of the fulcrum and lift again. That is how a mechanical jack works. On the down stroke the fulcrum is being raised and then latches there.

Once the post is out a bit you could make the short end of your lever longer to make it lift higher. You have already shortened the long end once it gets too high to reach.

Add blocks on top of the 2 x4 and keep lifting it up
@youtuuba3 жыл бұрын
You were so close to getting this right, but you made a critical mistake. That short board should NOT be located right adjacent to where the long 2x4 is attached to the post, rather it should be located directly under the very end of the 2x4 where it meets the ground. Your post was not popping up correctly because the end of the 2x4 was digging into the ground, and not making a stable and solid pivot point for the lever. Trying to jam the short board up where you did only made it worse, forcing you to lift other other end even higher.
@ethelryan2572 жыл бұрын
Given that it worked, I would reserve the comment 'critical mistake'.
@johnhogan3810 Жыл бұрын
After the first lift you raise the height of the fulcrum and lift again. That is how a mechanical jack works. On the downstream the fulcrum is raised.

If you would extend the 2x4 about 2 feet beyond the fence post, it seems to me , that you would have much more leverage to remove it.
@gallumbucket41312 жыл бұрын
you can do this with a bumper jack also
@jerrymccurry93722 жыл бұрын
1st, I would take the fence off of the post. Next, loosen the bottom fence bracket and slide it up the post a few inches and tighten it . Put the strap or a piece of chain on the bracket to the board/lever, (easier to use floor jack/car or truck jack will work). Leverage is everything.
@HealthyHearts3 жыл бұрын
Start with your base further away from your post that is beyond where your liver is going to be. I'll have a shorter lever but the folder won't be in a place where will actually lift your post out rather than tipping it over.
@brianstevens3858 Жыл бұрын
Use two pivots put one on both sides and rock it out, the initial block like you have then on lift side place a concrete block or larger block once you have clearance, then push down on the lever and add block to far side , repeat as needed, less strength and struggle needed.
@Sal112350 Жыл бұрын

I do about the same thing except I loosen the clamp used to attach fence wire to the post and put the strap under it and tighten it. Then instead of me yanking a 2x4, I put a rope on the other end, then to a huge tractor mower and it pulls it, so I don't exert energy and sweat like a pig!!!

@watchitbendstudios37812 жыл бұрын
I show and explain everything, so I'm not sure what you mean. Ratchet straps we'ent designed for this function. So getting it tight, with the 2 big hooks can be a challenge. Maybe twisting the strap or wrap it around something twice. Get it as tight as your can before applying the ratchet.
@gavinriley2 жыл бұрын
@@watchitbendstudios3781 I suppose I would benefit the most from seeing you apply the ratchet to the straps and ratchet it down. I'd also like to see what your hooks are attached to. Getting it as tight as possible before applying ratchet is going to be secret sauce I think!!! This is a great video. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to respond. I have watched it so many times haha. I want to pull up the post so bad! I am using 4 x 4 (it's what I had) instead of 2 x 4 - maybe that's the problem. Also the ratchet straps I got are from Ollie's (good n cheap), so the hooks are really meant for like a truck bed or something. Not the poles.

Should have laid the 2x4 flat on the ground several feet past the fence post (not right up against the post) and extend the lever 2x4 out several more feet to it. This would allow the lever to lift the fence post farther up out of the ground.
