Removing a seized o2 oxygen sensor, without clipping the wire

Using this hack in the video, I successfully remove a seized o2 sensor without destroying it.

Mine was stuck so bad I used penatrating oil and heat over a couple of days of fighting it i got the tool to go around the wires like in this video, had to use a hose clamp around it so it wouldn't spread, then heated the bung on the exhaust cherry red with map gas torch then hit the o2 sensor with a rag soaked in cold water to shrink the metal and then cranked it with a breaker bar and it finally went. Was the happiest I've been in a while cause I was getting ready to remove the exhaust which takes cutting and rewelding on my truck. Hope this helps someone out !

Thanks, I don t have a blow torch but will get one like Mapgas .A real struggle. If this fails its going to the garage where they will charge me £300 ish

Never buy the open socket kit . 99.99% of the time , you want to replace the sensor. So cut the wire and use a normal 7/8 socket. Applying heat goes a long way . One trick : Before unscrewing , tighten slightly then unscrew.

thanks for the vice grip tip. I ve splayed one of the tools. Someone said put a jubilee clip round it too .I may do both .I m under the car though, its a right bastard . The Sensor in front of the cat came out much easier than this thing

Sometimes in the long run, might be worth removing that piece of exhaust. Jubilee clip is a good shout aswell.

If you let penetrating oil on it overnight, or even became ludicrously patient and spray more and more penetrating oil on, and leave it for a second and third night, might that help it come loose that bit easier? I haven't got a heat gun here, and it ain't budging so far...

Because I wanted to save it, I just took off the pipe and stuck it in the vice, once I got my 250 pounds behind it, I was on a winner. I was only going to give it so long. 💪

@@drivewaydiyer6504 Well I m 73 and not strong and weigh 140 lb s so I m up against it lol..one of the two tools i used did spread so I was putting enough strength behind it. I ve see a KZbin vid where they used a power too impact driver to shake the thing off. It had a forked end

Problem with impact, you might end up rounding it off and having scrap the whole lot. Great if it works though.

If the sensor is not showing any voltage, it doesn't matter if you cut the wire..the ECM doesn't recognize that it exists...your car will run rich however irregardless which is never good for air/fuel ratio...

I used a good quality (Facom) 22mm open ended spanner and a big hammer.

I had a bad one like that once I ended up having to break it off and weld a socket to it to get it out.

It took all my weight, which is well over 200pounds, it’s the fact, I wanted to save it, was what made it difficult. Normally, I’d snip, heat and impact. I was starting to lose it.😆😆😆

Don’t use a ratchet initially a long breaker bar extension would probably have broken it loose.

Which is why I took the exhaust off. I needed to save the sensor. Post cat sensors are always hard, as they’re more exposed and rusted.
